There is a massive gap between $1699 and $60000.

I directly compared my LCD4 to my HD800S and the Audeze's bass performance was miles ahead leading me to sell the Sennheisers. I'll be the first to be excited when Sennheiser actually decide to raise their game. Until then others can buy all the gold editions...

The gold HD 800 S headphones shown at the Reshaping Excellence event were more ideal.

There is, yes. Sennheiser just might feel the amount of people that would buy a $4000 headphone, for instance, is so small it's not worth pursuing. So they offer ultimate performance at $59k and price/performance under $2k.

Even myself who would spend $4k on headphones I'd rather have a couple of different-sounding $2k headphones (or an open+closed back) over a single $4k headphone. At least I could mix it up then depending on the content i'm listening to and mood I am in.

If you want the "more bass" take on the hd800s take a listen to the hd820.

The 800 is not a bass cannon and it won't ever be. The Audeze and Sennheiser are totally different kinds of headphones. I can't see a valid comparison here.

My Original 800 is still going strong after 10 years. I have some very nice headphones including the Utopia and others and still prefer the HD800. Unlike the Susvara, I can use the HD800 does sound really good out of my modified Sony walkmans.

Guess I'll be raining in on the parade but a reveal for a....color change? There was a bit of a hype train going that Sennheiser was making an announcement.

I could of understood a reveal for price drop on the HD800s.

I could of understood a reveal for a price drop and possibly some hint of "something we're working on".

Something akin to what Schiit audio or ZMF does.

Does the HD800 S really lack in bass?

Non-sense. Apply an EQ and the HD 800 turns into a bass cannon.

Seriously. No.

The HD 800 is analytical, the Audeze are warm and impactful. Totally different kind of headphones for different purposes. All the EQ in the world is not going to change their essence.

Does the HD800 S really lack in bass?

It does not lack in bass, it lacks in bass impact. The quality of the bass on the 800 is wonderful. It is just not a basshead can.

Same lousy cardboard box? Klipsch's wood box would be more suitable for a special edition. Even the Audeze bullet-proof plastic suitcase would be a gigantic step up.

Yeah it’s a bit underwhelming.

The original HD800 packaging had a nice cloth wrap inside the box

Ah I see. Bass impact like in the Amiron or anything else? Trying to have an idea.
This colorscheme is very nice, exactly as how I like it but I can't justify the purchase.
