I'm running an Earmax with music streamer 2+. This a very very good set up highly recomend. Warm rich clean sound. If there is money left in the budget change your cables this will make a largest difference.

The Burson HA-160 has been optimized for the HD650 and the HA-0160D is available with a high-quality DAC for around $1,000.

I haven't seen anyone mention the Beyerdynamic A1 or the Corda Concerto. In particular, the stepped attenuator of the Corda sounds very interesting to me.

Do you really need to spend 1k for an amp?

You shouldn't ask questions like that here. You'll get lynched.

Its not about budget (its still withing budget).. just wasnt sure how good HD 650s are. Eg. if that upgrade is worth it, or I simply should get HD 800 + that Woo highest end AMP.

As I noticed HD 800 are very different from HD 650 (and I kinda like HD 650 and much less like AKG 701 and similar ones).

If you aren't sure about whether you'd like the HD650, my recommendation is focus on searching for your best headphone first. Headphones determine 90%+ of the audio you will get out of your setup. Unless you've absolutely fell in love with the sound signature of a headphone, you should use the majority of your budget to get the best sounding headphones to your ears that you can afford. You might take a listen at a HD800 and decide that the HD650 suits you better. But with the kind of budget you have, you need to at least give the HD800 a listen.

At that price level, I'd also checkout the HE6 and Audez'e LCD-2.

Why get 1 when could get 2 amp with $1000. I pair up my HD650 with Little Dot MKIVSE for Rock or Metal and Classical. Modern dance, Pop or RnB better mix with Little Dot MKVII+. Both amp cost me $850 shipped.
