While searching for the ES3 on Google, I came across this:

My opinion is that if you're gonna buy 900$ earphones, do yourself a favor
and dont buy earbuds.... Get a nice pair of BOSE earpads, they probably wont
cost you as much, and you WILL get better stereo reproduction/bass
response/overall flatness.

Anyways, if you still want to go the earbud way, go with the company that
has the longest and best warranty. At 900$, they should be warrantied for
life!

It was so funny and so depressing at the same time.

I'm about 2 years away from having to make this decision (I will buy myself some ver high end IEMs when I graduate) but that review by lindrone has certainly swayed me in one direction over the other at this point. I wonder what the next 2 years might bring in either new headphones or new information.

Yikes! Another 2X-S versus UE10-Pro thread.

Flip a coin. I keep telling people that, but nobody will listen. Man, if I had to do it all over again... I'd get out my favorite quarter and call it in the air. No better way to decide, IMO.

People who bought the UE10-Pro's are happy with them, some even love them. But same goes for the 2X-S. Of course, there may be an exception here or there, but generally everyone is exceptionally happy with whichever they choose. Only a handful of people have both, and the opinions there go in opposite directions.

So the bottom line is that you've got to make the call yourself based on everything that you can read about each product. Go with your gut instinct.

... Or flip a coin.

is 2X-S easy to drive ?

Very easy to drive, as are all IEMs. In fact, there seems to be a consensus that amps don't provide the same degree of improvement with IEMs as they do with conventional headphones.

Hmmm.... My ER-4P/Ss benefit dramatically from my SM3, and my SR-225s and SR-125s less so.

the sensaphonics absolutely do not need an amp.

they will blow you away without one.

of course with an amp, they will sound even better, (which is hard to imagine, because i still can not believe how damn good they sound without one.)

My fault, I overstated my point. Most (though not all) believe that UEs and Sensas do not significantly benefit from an amp.

I'd disagree here. What I love about the Sensas is that they do improve as your source/amp improves. Are they enjoyable ampless from an ipod? Sure they are! But add a good amp, and woa, improvement. Plug into your home source/amp and it's woaaaa... more improvement.

So yes they have the ability to grow. Basically, they are like a straight link to what your source and amp sound like, so if you think of it that way, of course they benefit from upgrades.

But no you don't absolutely positively need an amp, but it won't be a waste of money to get one either.

What improves in the sound? Everything really. If your source and amp gives it, then the Sensas will reproduce it.

Edit - let's put it this way. There was a couple of weeks when I didn't have time to use the ipod, only my home setup. So after that two weeks, plugging into the ipod after being so used to the sound of my home setup with the Sensas... the degradation in quality made me want to cry. But then my ears adjusted and I was happy. They're the best high-end headphone you can plug directly into an ipod.

I never tried a Custom IEM, but the guy in these review (http://www.macobserver.com/featurere.../05/07.1.shtml) preferred the UE5c to the Sensas. According to everything I have read the Sensa's should be much better, but I think it is something worth thinking for such a big purchase.

Also by the way I found interesting that the UE10 uses 2 drivers for bass and the other for the rest, meanwhile the Westone ES3 accordign to http://www.westone.com/music/pr_102303.html uses one for bass, one for mids, and one for highs.
