GUSTARD DAC-R26 Balanced Decoder R2R+1Bit Dual Native Decoding Music Bridge

Isn’t reintroducing usb again in this chain sub par?

I am running from a bridge via LAN straight into the Gustard with my Mac mini and router on the other side of the house.

My understanding is that by avoiding usb, you avoid significant noise / jitter and the need of an external clock. By going LAN direct - you should be getting a v clean signal and allowing the internal clock to do its job with minimal interference.

My understanding is that this should be the optimal solution. Have I missed something? I have read the article but doesn’t really explain why it’s more optimal to LAN direct (his use case with the Sonore in middle requires reclocking).
From what I've read, common routers introduce noise into the ethernet signal, which is pretty believable with cheap components and SMPSs, so even with a great LAN cable and great ethernet implementation on a DAC, there will be noise in the signal. Some of us have used the Delocks or maybe even a SOtM isolator if you really like to spend money: https://shop.highend-audiopc.com/products/sotm-iso-cat6-lan-isolator . Then there are always audiophile switches https://twitteringmachines.com/a-list-of-audiophile-network-switches/ . I am not doubting the effectiveness of any of these devices, have heard people floored by the difference in their systems. Just posting this to say the quietness war is never won apparently!

And using these fiber media convertors removes that noise.
That article I posted was from 2020 so honestly I don’t think there were hardly any affordable DACs with a LAN input so that’s probably why they showed a USB from streamer into DAC in the diagram.
We are lucky to not have that problem with the R26.

You have 2 more converters in the chain. Plus, 1 more LAN cable is needed. Plus optical cable. I'm not saying that there is no sonic progress, I'm just pointing out the downsides of that solution.
I dont know for sure either. I will be testing and recording all my gear for AB testing.

I forgot to tell that i also use a Baaske MI1005, right after the fiber/FMC into my computer

The information travels thousands of kilometers through god knows what and suddenly the last meter becomes very important.
OTOH, the information have travelled through thousands of converters, switches and other equipment, how can a few more on the last meters matter?
A dilemma for box hoarders, isn't it? ;)

Have you tried a restart, waiting 10 secs to switch on again with the switch at the back and then wait a little?
Dominic follow Zombies advice doing so will fix issues most of the time .
Thank you very much for your help :)

I tried out everything but at the end - only a rewrite of the Renderer Image did helped.

Now it is working flawless

I've potentially found buyer for my X26PRO DAC and want to hear/try R26. What/where is the best price in EU to buy one? THX!

I'm hearing a a moment of distortion at the beginning of dsd tracks, specially when roon moves from a pcm track to a dsd one. Pretty disconcerting this .... anyone else have this experience? Solutions??

I also bought my R26 from Audiophonics, good warranty and was delivered in good time. I've bought several things from this supplier. Good service, even when one purchase, a bluetooth 5.0 LDAC adaptor, went wrong, I returned it and they sent a replacement no hassle.

Can anyone (in Australia) recommend a reasonably priced 5v linear power supply? For ethernet - fiber converter. Thanks in advance....

The Allo Nirvana is super quiet and maybe the best switch mode power supply you can get. I would choose the Nirvana over a lot of linear power supplies.

I have and still use the Allo Shanti LPS dual 1A+3A 5v power supply which is a very impressive device when used with a Raspberry Pi with Allo Hat boards (DigiOne, Boss and Kali with Isolator) have used all these as sources. The Shanti delivers less noise so more detail and black background than anything else I've tried.
