GUSTARD DAC-R26 Balanced Decoder R2R+1Bit Dual Native Decoding Music Bridge

@NoaHimesaka - when I run the diskutil list, the R26 isn't showing up. I have it plugged in via usb-c, and the unit is turned on. Any clues or another way to search for it?
1. It won't say R26. It shows up as generic-looking 32GB drive with single 2-3GB partition.
2. Try placing it in standby mode and then plug it in.

Sure, fiddle with your boxes, cables and gadgets to your hearts desire. Audiophilia nervosa and confirmation bias are strong forces. Good luck.
Not sure what you mean by all that. This is a very effective, proven way of eliminating noise.
But I will say the confirmation bias of not attempting new things, researching deeper, and someone believing that they know everything, leaves one about as brain dead as well….a Zombie. 😉

This is all that shows up. I’ve tried every sequence and power status I can think of, but it’s just not showing up. Could it be APFS volume VM?

I encourage you to research some more.
I still don’t think you understand the application and the benefits of converting to fiber.
Here is a good place to start.

Research ? I had a demonstration at EMM Labs , Meniner including Playback Designs are using optical inputs outputs advanced technology hopefully will trickle down to much more affordable component…. I think we just got off on the wrong foot.

Yes having the fiber be an input within a DAC could be better but I’m using fiber optical convertors to accomplish the same thing.

I’m just wondering, couldn’t you go from copper to fiber, straight into the optical input on the R26, or are they different terminations?
No this is different all together.
This isnt that toslink optical garbage. this is the good stuff fiber optic, back engineered from crashed alien space craft. 😂
But I’m being serious.

Isn’t reintroducing usb again in this chain sub par?

I am running from a bridge via LAN straight into the Gustard with my Mac mini and router on the other side of the house.

My understanding is that by avoiding usb, you avoid significant noise / jitter and the need of an external clock. By going LAN direct - you should be getting a v clean signal and allowing the internal clock to do its job with minimal interference.

My understanding is that this should be the optimal solution. Have I missed something? I have read the article but doesn’t really explain why it’s more optimal to LAN direct (his use case with the Sonore in middle requires reclocking).

Probably no DACs at the time had LAN direct.
I will for sure be going LAN direct.
