GS Audio Impressions Thread
Jul 5, 2021 at 9:12 PM Post #76 of 1,414
I have been eyeing on 4 EST IEMs so I am very curious how GS Audio's flagships SE11 SE12 would sound. SE12 has the same driver combo as Tansio Mirai Spark, so it could be a budget option.
Based on the only graphs I could find of them from the review written by @tgx78 it looks like the Sparks have quite the healthy treble gain.

The graph isn't complete down to 20Hz for the sparks, so I'm not entirely sure how balanced their bass gain is to their treble gain, but the graph's peaks in the treble on the Shanling blue line aren't all that dissimilar in shape to the graph from GS audio for the SE12

It does look like they managed to eke out some UHF treble extension over the TSMR Sparks, though, which could give just that tiny bit more air to the higher harmonics.

yeah. Actually, I was hoping that having extra ESTs in IEMs can give more air and treble extension, so their SE11 12 graphs give some good expectation that those would have nice shimmering treble.

@Precogvision also measured my Spark and as you can see, it has healthy lower treble boost if you use it with a low OI devices. I am hoping that SE11 will have a bit more upper treble extension.

I am 43 so I always prefer something brighter (like Viento-B I used to own) for my classical music library.

I'm very treble sensitive, so the graph of the Sparks isn't appealing to me. I'm glad you like them, though.

I mainly use the Spark with the M8 4.4 out with somewhere around 2Ω which drops amplitude of entire lower treble region by 2-3dbs so all good for me. Also I am usually lot more sensitive to the upper mids (pinna gain) region than treble.

Has anyone found out any details on the material used for the DD driver?
Is it the same DD in all their GD and SD models?

I haven't heard anything about the materials for them. As far as I am aware, all of the DD they use are the same between the series. If you're interested in buying something, get on a chat with their reps on AE. They're very helpful. I would just feel guilty pestering them more when I'm not currently in a position to buy more IEMs. The ones in my GD7B seem quite agile, so they're probably not just a simple plastic membrane, but I've got no real idea what they're actually made from. Having said that, if they're open to suggestions, I'd love to see them tackle a hybrid set with a beryllium foil dynamic driver. From the reviews I've seen, they have a somewhat unique sound character that a lot of people find very appealing. BGGAR seemed to really love the Thieaudio L2 specifically because of the character of the beryllium DD.

I was wondering about that. Seems like the membrane in the bass BA drivers they're using is pretty large and stiff. Makes sense it might change in sound signature a bit once it loosens up. I may see about getting the GT8 when I have some cash to spare if it's got a nice, deep bass signature, since I do love a bass-heavy earphone for those easy listening days when you just want to cocoon yourself in bass warmth.
I'm in love with the sonion bass now, so maybe I'll be getting one with the 38 series (ST4 probably) since the 33 series is amazing, definetely bass heavy for an all BA

Wow i follow your impressions because SE11 looks very interesting having DD, instead SE12 has similar Spark design, did you see their graphs?

SE12

SE11

Did you compare it with Spark?

Those graphs are quite funny. I've always wanted an IEM with high levels of 'exquisite'.

Cerberus cost more than 2x SE11.
SE11 has 2BA and 2EST more😱

I'd personally be more interested in the ST6A. Their graph looks exciting.

They go with 38 series for sub-bass and bass, 37 series for mid-bass and mids, 23 series for mids to low treble, then they switch to Knowles TWFK for the treble extension. Looks like an interesting arrangement. It looks like at least two of those are single BA units instead of coupled units. My guess is the 37 series and TWFK are single BA units.

I suspect that SE12 is the generic of BGVP ES12...
