Good calls, Howe in particular is a truly excellent guitarist.

"Howe was voted "Best Overall Guitarist" in Guitar Player magazine five years in a row (1977–1981) and was inducted into Guitar Player's "Gallery of Greats" in 1981.[8] The only other two guitarists to win the "Best Overall Guitarist" category for the "Gallery Of Greats" are Steve Morse and Eric Johnson."
Others like Robin Trower (Procol Harum) and Alvin Lee (Ten Years After) were not included.

Adrian Belew should be there. One of the most underrated guitarist, perhaps the reason he isn't appreciated much is because he is always overshadowed by his bandmate Robert Fripp.

Threads like these are really good for expanding my musical horizons

Also this couldn't be said enough really.

Not much credibility with Rolling Stone. They are always way out in left field on lists like these. Unless it's being based strictly on album sales or popularity.
Most of the writers are too stoned anyway.
Also this couldn't be said enough really.

Saw Richard Thompson last night and he definitely should be higher in the rankings (if these really meant anything).

Have to admit "Rodrigo Y Gabriela" seem to be heading toward the top ranks in the future. Though a duo either one could stand on their own merits as excellent guitarists.

Has Robben Ford been mentioned?
"Ford is certainly a master of his craft. You don’t get to play with Miles Davis if you haven’t got the chops. He contributed a number of excellent solos but always kept a good balance between rhythm and lead and this was as fine an example of blues guitar playing as I’ve ever seen. He’s something of a showman too but not in the Buddy Guy mould. The preposterously youthful looking Ford has a more low key approach but is surely Guy’s equal in terms of ability."

There is a dude, called THE BEVIS FROND who is definately up there.
not very mainstream.
not very mainstream.
No posts found for "frampton"
Unbelievable this guy was overlooked, he has been great for a long time.
Famous because of his talk box, he's still keeping it fresh.
Pretty strong solo improv.

No Terry Kath from the band Chicago who Jimi Hendrix once called one kid “better than me”.

I'm talking about the Rolling Stones '100 Greatest Guitarist' list, not comments made in this thread.

Disappointed that Phil Keaggy wasn't mentioned on the list or in this thread. One of my favorites.
