Mysteriously Onkyo HF Player decided to realize my Mojo was connected! Bought that thing so quickly.

For what it's worth, I found a bug in UAPP after buying it (apparently nobody who uses UAPP uses folder browse) and they responded within a few hours saying they'd push a new update with that fixed soon, so that's nice. But you just can't beat the Onkyo HF itnerface.

There is a script to enable V4A. Did you do that?

Set it at boot:

/system/xbin/supolicy --live "allow mediaserver mediaserver_tmpfs:file { read write execute };"

Okay, I did something wrong.  It's not working anymore.  It won't play music at all.  If I delete the script, I can get the music player to play again, but the driver shows up as Abnormal.  What I'm doing is opening scripter in rom toolbox, creating a new script, and entering "/system/xbin/supolicy --live "allow mediaserver mediaserver_tmpfs:file".  Setting it at boot, not sure how to set it as read, write, execute , and ran it right away on the phone, it worked.  I shut the phone off last night.  Turned it on this morning, and get no playback from the music player.  Driver shows up as abnormal.  I have to delete the script to get it to play anything.  What am I doing wrong?

I added SELinuxChanger, and got farther.  The only problem now, is it's not "Processing" sound.  It's active, NEON is on, everything looks good, but the processing.

Okay, I didn't need rom toolbox.  I set SELinuxChanger to permissive, changed FX Compatibility to "compatible" instead of normal, and have some serious bass rumbling my head now.

well i don't know somehow the last couple of days i am running into an issue on my rooted note3 and v4a

i flashed a new rom by phonesis and it had v4a the latest version integrated into the rom

v4a works good, and no issues, as recommended i removed all audio tweaks under poweramp, including DVC and others

and dialed in just some settings into v4a, i feel the mids are taking a back seat, at first i blamed it on mojo, but then when i connected the mojo to my iphones the mids were there full and lush and present.

I am wondering, i do not use the eq in v4a, I use the eq in pwoeramp to fine tune things, but barely i raise the bass boost by 3 db in poweramp eq. I tried to listen to both my iems and full heapdhones but the mids are not quite to my liking anymore.

I know the Joe Bloggs is the master and I truly wish that he does an irs for my oppo pm1, one with punchy bass and one regular without affecting mids, i reduced output gain to -1.9 to not cause clipping in v4a.

maybe in the driver that is included in the rom they did not use the best driver for va4

update: i think after a bit more testing once i return the output gain to 0 in v4a instead of -1.9 mids are back to my liking, so i guess its the reduction of output gain that has not a good effect on the mids fullness

Maybe the didn't use the hifi driver? Uninstall it and reinstall with your preferred driver.

thats what i will do now and try again

as clearly when reducing the output gain by -1.9 sucks the mids out

so i am assuming the cooked in v4a in that rom did not use the hifi driver

but the weird thing is i uninstalled the driver, and when v4a ask to reinstall the driver it did not ask me what type of driver i want to install like the previous versions of v4a

well i did install v4a from scratch, but man to me this lowering of output gain to -1 or -1.9 takes a big toll on the dynamics of the mids on both my u12 and oppo pm1 and makes the whole sound so lacking in mids

i went back to output gain at 0 and everything is fine, what i did i just reduced the bass on the poweramp eq preamp, and used lower bass settings in the v4a

so anyone who has issues with mids to be kinda of lacking and has output gain lowered in v4a might want to check it back to 0 and try avoiding too much processing to avoid clipping

fixing mids by eq is bit harder than fixing low end so I suggest that if you are not happy with ur mids and you have lowered your output gain to a minus in v4a go back to v4a and put output gain back to 0

with output gain in the minus on v4a the mojo sounded like crap, which baffled me as before i put output gain to minus the mojo was amazing, so for mojo owners take this in consideration

Using different eq platforms can get a little tricky and can definitely impact sound in a bad way.

absolutely u r right, but man what a relief to have the mojo sounding amazing again like when i first had it, wow what a relief, as honestly today i had a huge dislike from my mojo. But again it was my fault and error and mojo is now on the top again

u know what i was thinking today, wouldnt it be amazing if v4a make a dap :)

@Joe Bloggs

I have a question, since now poweramp alpha can play high res files, would this mean that v4a will not down sample things on phones like samsung galaxy 7 edge

best wishes

If you have the phone in question and running V4A, it would be simple to open V4A, tap the menu button and open Driver Status to read the sample rate being used by V4A and the system output.

its strange as when i opened poweramp alpha settings - hi-res output and checked usb dac, v4a shows its procesisng but when i play with the settings in va4 nothing happens sound wise, very strange as it shows its processing while in reality its not

It's not working for me with the Oppo HA-2. It works through the internal DAC with both UAPP and Google Play Music (I change the V4A settings -> the sound changes), but with the Oppo HA-2 it just shows "Abnormal", "Processing: no" etc.

At first it wasn't working with UAPP through on-board because I had UAPP force output to 44.1 kHz, but after I selected "Device native sample rate" I noticed it started outputting 48 kHz and V4A started working. This must mean CyanogenMod 12.1 is set to use 48 kHz by default, and if I don't use that, V4A isn't going to work. Now when I plug the HA-2 in and start playing from UAPP with the same "device native" setting for some reason it shows it's outputting in 44.1 kHz and V4A goes to "Format: unsupported" and all that jazz. Same if I try to play from foobar2000. Maybe the Android 5.1 USB DAC driver is somehow forcing the "device default" to 44.1 and all apps get affected except the V4A driver?

Got it. What I needed to do was to change the sampling_rates setting from "dynamic" to "48000" in the usb_device section under "usb{ outputs{" in /system/etc/audio_policy.conf and reboot. I don't know if this is only needed on CyanogenMod 12.1, but it solved it for me and now I can use USB DACs and ViPER4Android at the same time.
