HF1 -VS- MS2
HF1 has more bass impact and midrange quantity. MS2 has more treble and deeper sub-bass extension. HF1 is more forward and in the head sounding. IMHO the HF1 is an *overall* warmer presentation... its Grado-mids are forward yet warm at the same time. A very unique quality that no other sub-RS1 grado has.
Detail resolution, I would give the MS2 a slight edge. The HF1 is "thicker" and more syruppy sounding, MS2 is airy and articulate and able to expose more deails.
Not sure how much difference the wood makes... The only way to know would be to mount an MS2 driver into a wood earcup. I am kind of tempted to take an SR325i earcup and mount the wood HF1 drivers in it. Might make it sterile and cold... or it could make it bright and airy like the MS2.
