It's a worthwhile upgrade, but be prepared for a change in sound signatures.

I owned PX-100s and sold them once I compared them to the SR-80s. No comparison in my view. A definite upgrade, and worth the extra $$50-$60. I've owned the SR-80s for 8 years or so. The PX-100s were an impulse buy, but I got them for $33 shipped on newegg.com. Not bad, but not in the SR-80s' class.

I just recently bought some px100's(again) for exercising and they are a disappointment compared to grados. They just don't compare.

Guys, also note that the Sennheiser PX-100 often sell for about $70 in Canada. It's a much worse value here. I haven't heard them, but I don't expect all that much... should be a substantial improvement.

A much better change IMO.

so how much better is the ms1 over the sr60/80s? especially for the mid range? guitars, vocals, detail and for acoustic, indie, multi instrumental etc...

I owned PX100, bought SR-60, gave PX100 to my dad, bought MS2i... never looked back

Alessandro and Grado isn't as much a discussion on which is "better" but more of preference:
- Grado = in-your-face, high-energy & full of PRAT
- Alessandro = more neutral (than Grado), more balanced but still with quite a decent scoop of fun & PRAT (the MS2i at least)

With reference to more balanced that means you will lose that foot stomping rhythm grados have which is what I love about them . I have never owned an allesandro so this is speculation on my part but probably true.Like previously noted though you may not lose all of it.After grados I have found senns and stuff boring in comparison.I LOVE PRaT I guess.

I know I'm in the crazy minority here, but...

I love my PX-100's as an all around versatile set of cans. I wanted something more, so I bought a pair of Grado SR-60s and burned them in. I stil kept going back to the PX-100's.

It's not an issue of sound quality -- I think the SR-60's definitely presented a clearer sound. I think it's more of a sound signature. The "Grado" sound just wasn't for me -- I *personally* found them fatiguing and a bit too colored or inaccurate.

I'm now rocking some Sennheiser HD-580's, and I'm finally spending more head time with something other than the PX-100's. The 580's aren't even broken in yet and I'm loving them.

The point of the story is that it all depends on your tastes. You won't know for sure until you try. The SR-60's have good resale/trade value around here, so if you don't like them you can always sell or trade them to try something different.
