Thanks man! I'm definitely excited I came up on that as well. I bought it from the guy not knowing much about it, because I hadn't ever stumbled on a thread about it. I was just hoping it was also as good a steal for $70 as his RS1's were for $150. I don't have another portable to compare it to, but it definitely give the RS1 some more juice.

RockCity, stay on to give me a sec to take a pic right now... I gotta go into the kitchen where I can turn on a light. If I tried turning a light on in the bedroom right now my girl would kill me, haha.

Definitely, right this sec. And RockCity, I just noticed you're from the bay! Hell yeah man! I'm a HUGE Giants fan. It took long enough to get a title for the bay.

2001, post 9/11. I think they used to come with a signed letter from John apologising for the plain box as their previous supplier had recently gone out of business.

Impressive man. How can you tell? Does it have anything to do with the box? And should I know anything about the '01's vs. newer versions?

Oh ok, you must've edited the box part in right after I started replying. haha.

Agreed with olor1n.

The font, stoppers, and headband are characteristics of the year. Very good condition as well. Congratulations.

Edit 1: I've had a pair like yours as well as an older RS-1. The missing serial no. are pre-2004.

Thanks, RockCity! I was really psyched on the condition of em when I got there, all they needed was new pads! I was expecting for $150, it would be in need of some D(desperate)LC, but was wrong.

And GO GIANTS! My girlfriend and I are planning a vacation back to the bay cuz it's been a while, and there's no place like it.

I mentioned those flats earlier but got no reply from anyone:

"Cool. Good info, ArmAndHammer. I just bought a set of the L cusions on ttvj and I'm gunna have to try those jumbos. Any experiences with the flats? I've heard those are the most in-your-face of the three, which isn't hard to believe cuz of their in-your-face/ear design.

I know I mentioned my taste in clarity/accuracy over bass earlier, but I can imagine the flats bleeding out a lot of bass because it looks like they don't give much of a seal. I could be completely wrong though, cuz I saw a member previously say that those are the most bass-heavy of the three pads."

I'm sure you can provide some insight/correction for me on this.

Bowl pads are fine but you should try the RS-1 with flat pads. If they are too expensive, buy some Grado comfies ($8) and cut a 1.5" diameter ring in them.

Is modding the comfies meant to increase bass quantity? I think I've read the flats do that so I wonder if it has the same effect. I have the MS-1i and tried the reverse HD414 quarter mod and I hated how it decreased the punch of the bass and pushed the highs towards being too shrill and fatiguing.
