I will echo the opinion that ps500 is not an upgrade to sr325. If you want something less bright, try the ms2e or the rs1i.

Grado milled down the inside of the wood cup of later RS1e to sit the plastic driver housing a few mm lower, making it less protruding.

The drivers should absolutely be flush with the cups. It's obvious how/why the drivers would hit your ears as most are saying about the RS1e. I feel grateful to own an RS1i!

It won't be an issue if Grado chose to pair the RS1e with a slightly taller L-cushsion at the very beginning, then even the protruding drivers will not be an sonic/comfort issue.
 
The RS1e is a $700 headphone which has its design compromised by its earpads.... Now look across to the Audeze EL-8 thread, which also costs $700 and with design originated from NASA and BMW... Another reason for me to be done with my 325e...

Regardless of it design originated from NASA/BMW…it's the SQ that matters most.
I couldn't believe the way the LCD-X sounded for me…I thought I was going to own them from reading impressions…but that wouldn't have even happened if they cost $100.00 for me.
I was shocked to say the very least.

yeah, seriously, just pop the cups form the plastic gimbals and install them in the opposite gimbal. take off the foam pads and it’s a 30 second job.
 
only thing to be careful about is that when you put the cups back in the gimbals that the gimbals are oriented properly - they need to be angled inward. it’s easy for them to rotate around.

I'm not sure, but I think he has RS1e's???
In that case it would be easier to pull the gimbals/cups out of the rod blocks to switch…if the gimbals are plastic, then your way is the easier way to do it.

Just tried, the thing is holding fast. I am not breaking them for an experiment, and will wait for the official reply.

Well my friend used to bend them so hard when I had his Grados on I felt no clamp force and thus very comfortable. Of course it's not that much as to make the headband too loose (and the cans lose bass impact).

Further tweaking has greatly improved comfort and allowed for extended listening sessions.

Thanks for the encouragement ...financially better off now, too.

I don't know if you had the chance to listen to the SR80e, but, it too, I think, is a significant improvement over the SR80i, wich were already very good, to begin with.

I think that all  of the e series have deeper bass, and just a little bit less treble extension, and I agree with you on the fact that they have a smoother, more refine sound signature. 

In my opinion the SR325i, aren't the last word, as far as bass extension goes, and they are certainly, THE brightest sounding Grados. So, with this in mind, I think that the SR325 is the model that has benefited the most, from the changes that the e series has brought.

When I get a chance, I want to go to my dealer's to listen to the PS1000e, and while I'm there, just out of curiousity, I going to listen to the SR325e. 

No not listened to the SR80e as yet. I can only imagine that it is great right out of the box in comparison to the 80i, which for me the treble presented some harshness for the first couple of months of day to day use.

The 325e is certainly worthy of an audition and I would be very interested in comparisons to the TOTL.

When i first read about the "e" series Grado's....I was so pumped up about the RS1e having bigger drivers...I was all in for one.
 
Man, they have been nothing but disappointing.....I really wish they would get it sorted.
