I don't think theres any such thing as the special edition K501, theyre just trying to sell old stock for high money.

Yeah, I didn't really pay attention to the special addition bit, but I suppose considering that they're unavailable new anywhere else, they can charge what they want. Hopefully the k701 will come down in price after the k702 is released...

$160 is a fair price for the K-501. I'd pay that to get them - I have the same model and love them.

The K-701 won't drop in price after the K-702 comes out. It's just a studio/pro version, not a replacement. Prices should be about the same.

Don't think the K-701 improves on the K-501, either. The K-501 has magic in the mids, like almost nothing else. The K-701 is simply competent. I like it well enough, but the K-701 has never made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Considering I paid $79.99 + free shipping from Musician's Friend when the K501's were phased out way back in 2002, I have a difficult time justifying that price.

You'd have to know you wanted a pair of 501's over the current models (K601 - $199, K701 = $259).

Meh, that is completely unfair... Sucks that I got into this hobby just a bit too late...

That's in the description of the listing! Lol!

You might not be laughing after a listen. The mids are excellent, some of the best ever. If you like acoustic music and vocals, the K-501 will knock you flat. The K-701 can sound great, but it won't stun you the way the K-501 will. Give them a listen some time.

I thought the 501's were hard to drive and the earpad material was really weird.

The K-501 can be a little tricky to drive. But I think the earpads are comfy. They've never bothered me, even after hours of listening.

Grrr, I want some, but even with this ebay price, I have no money!
