Right now I'm using an HD650 with my Little Dot Mk IV SE amplifier. I'm wondering if I could get some opinions on good 'phones for upgrading. I'm mainly a classical music listener. I like a warm midrange. I'd like to keep it around $1000 or less. I know that the Hifiman HE500 is one possibility. I doubt the HE6 would work (probably needs more power than I have). The Audeze LCD-2 is one possibility. What other 'phones are in the < $1000 category that you might think sound good on classical music with the Little Dot? Midrange is my highest priority, followed by treble extension.

The LD is an OTL amp, and, as such, not really suitable for driving orthos. Frankly, the HD600 and HD650 are already pretty much the optimal match. As you are primarily a classical listener, I would suggest used HD800s, but I suspect you would find them too bright.

Maybe you should keep the HD650s and invest in a top-quality cable (e.g. Toxic Viper or Silver Poison) and some really good NOS tubes... And save a packet!

Sorry, didn't see that you already have the Black Dragon...

Here's an idea: keep the Senns and get a used Zana Deux. That should do it!

Interesting suggestion about the Zana Deux. Thanks.
