I think the most critical part is to find a venue to host the meet. If we have the place I think we can gather a few good gears of amp, DAC, and headphones.

Let keep the planning horizon in Q1 2008. I would say 2007 may be too rush to secure a venue.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was debating between XRCD or LPCD. I have a Faye Wong LPCD 45 and I love that format. Maybe when time comes, they'll have some titles in K2 HD.

The LPCD45 is in face a Direct Cut CD (similar to a CD-R) which many have vowed to offer exceptional audiophile qualities. There were two volumes issued earlier this year, covering the most popular of Theresa's songs.

For Tsai Chin, there are quite a few choices in both XRCD, SACD, and LPCD45.

If you are a big spender, you can also bargain for some 5 - 8% discount off the listed price in some local shops if you purchase over, say US$500-800worth of CDs. I do not shop for CD often. Typically I buy CD around twice a month, and usually spend over US$600 in one single purchase and get some discounts.

Kind regards,
F. Lo

Hi,
I am thinking of getting a Denon D2000 from Hong Kong, with the help of my cousin

After looking at prices offered online by Kingsound and Mingo, they are very close to those offered by Audiocubes, Pricejapan, even though HK prices are supposed to be cheaper (looking at various other brands, esp Japanese ones).
Anyone knows a shop in HK that offers a good price for the Denons?
THANK YOU!

Anywhere to find audiphile cds too?

with weak HK dollar, everything will be cheaper. just go to Monk Kwok and you'll see lots everything.

Is there an approximation as to how much cheaper the Audio Technicas (and maybe denons.) will be? I have a friend who will be going to Japan and then Hong Kong soon, before coming back to the US. He's alot more familiar with Hong Kong, so I figured I might ask him to buy the headphones while he's at Hong Kong, versus while he's sight seeing with his family for his first time in Japan.

For reference. I'd be looking at the ATH-AD2000 price of $499 and ATH-W1000 $399 with prices from Audio Cubes.
My friend also mentioned...maybe something about customs making him declare anything of value over $400. Is this a really high tax I'd have to pay--in that I'd want him to find a way around it. Or low enough that I could just have him declare it.

I see the W1000 going for 2599 HKD at some places -- roughly 334USD on today's rates.

guys, sorry for my out-of-topic-question, but i really need your support when i come to Hong Kong. I am planning to fly down to Hong Kong specially to buy audiophile grade stereo Hifi equipment. My plan is to buy chinnese only. What is your assessment of chinese hifi Vs traditional hifi brands like Denon, Marantz...

Sorry for bumping this old thread, but I'll be going to Hong Kong and Guangzhou next month. Can someone point me to places to buy LPCDs and XRCDs in Hong Kong or Guangzhou? Thanks in advance. I think someone PMed me about the places, but after the server crash I can't access those PMs any more.

did you mean lp or cd? either one it's not hard. some big name cd shop such as hmv, or hong kong record carries lp and cd, also xrcd too. the shop on the 9th floor in time square also sell lps and xrcds and sell it at a reasonable reason. some smaller shops in monk kwok also sell lp and xrcd as well

I'm looking for LPCD45. These: The LPCD technology

Any address for the shops? I'm also thinking about picking up a CD player and maybe headphones if the price is right.

For LPCD45 and other audiophile CDs, try to pay a visit to Disc Plus located at 9th Floor, Times Square in Causeway Bay. I have no connection to this shop except that I am a customer of them ( I buy around 20 - 30 CDs per month on average).

There you will find a good collection of LPCD45, as well as a K2 H2 mastered CDs, not to mentioned some of the most reputable names in SACDs, and of course 24K Gold CDs for some classic recordings.

In addition, if you look hard enough, you will be able to find some great Japan only first edition of CDs - which in general sound better than those intended for export.

Price wise, they are quite reasonable (and I used to be able to get a small discount as my typical purchase is around US$400 each time), and better than those in HMV, or Hong Kong Records.

Hope you find this useful, and enjoy your stay in Hong Kong.

If you go to Time Square in Causeway Bay as fkclo advised, you could also down to the basement to a shop called CD Warehouse. They are NOT specialists in audiophile CDs but they do stock K2 H2 mastered CDs and SACDs as well as some LPCDs.
