yeah, the atrio works well both ways, though, if you use it down rather than over the ear, you will start to hear microphonic noises. the cable is one of the best at the price, but it will still show up touch noise from a variety of movements. over the ear (until you are used to it) may seem strange, but is better: more secure, less noise and less likely to fall out.
So in Version 2 after they removed the memory wires, you can still get them to fit over ears easy correct? Also, how are the quality of the wires?
And I heard there is improvement in the mid/treble region on V2.... is that true? I wasn't too sure the difference between v1 and v2 but i got V2 nonetheless................
So nobody heard W3 and M5? I own the Westones, but I'm very curious about the "legendary" Atrio bass. I assume that the rest isn't as good, but I really would like to read a bass comparison.
I'll be working on one, but it won't be done till november or so... haha. the cables on the atrio are nothing in comparison to the westone. but then, nothing is as good unless you use earsonics sm2. i am unsure if any other company uses the same.
but for the price and unless you go um1 from westone, there isn't really a better cable for noise. most cables (pfe, victor fx500, atrio) in that category are very similar. very quiet, well built, but ultimately at risk of crystalisation. the atrio is probably the best of that bunch for the latter, but it isn't as good as a few others.
here are pictures of M5 with PL50 X-large silicone tips.
it seals and stays firmly outside the canal just like v-moda vibe canalphones.
in the picture u can see the thin nozzle, but its not sticking out or hurt my ears.these weird looking tips doesn't tame down the bass but gave out a vibration feel to the bass.the mids are no longer shy and the detail in treble.i dun know how to explain it in details but if
any M5 user who had the PL50,give it a try and post up ur impression.*no mod is required as the M5 nozzle fits perfectly.

i dun know if u can only buy the tips as i dun see Soundmagic selling any replacement tips,it comes with the
PL50.
IMO...M5 have a better balance sound using a larger opening tips than the stock double flanges tips with small opening which suppresses the mid and high.
TBH,i only realize the mid on the M5 recessed after getting the PL50 which has clear mid and better treble details, which is missing from the M5 but the low are no comparison to M5.And when i swap the tips between these two it combined well.
PL50 with M5 double flanges,its like a bass boost.
I totally agree that tips does makes a different in IEMs.
I wonder what M5 sounds like with UM56 custom tips?
i would imagine that the m5 would sound better if it had a larger sound bore. the plastic echo which I don't like is probably the product of that and the soft plastic sound chamber.
Interesting stuff about the PL-50 tips. I've been experimenting with all kinds of tips including olives, and I always end up going back the default large double flanges.
On a sidenote, I've been using the Atrio together with the GoVibe Derringer amp. It has excellent synergy, really brings out a lot more detail. It's almost impossible for me to go listening to the Atrio without the amp now
it will definitely sounds different with larger bore, better?
we can only know if we can a mod to it,its not possible to enlarge
the hole as the wall is too thin.
the only way is to cut off the nozzle or replace the housing..hehe.
hi shigzeo,i like ur reviews and impressions u posted as am a trance fans too and thanks to u, it really makes my life easier in choosing the correct IEMs that suits my taste of music..
