Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

So you like the Dekoni THXOO pads over anything else for Sq, Sq integrity and comfort?

Once I get the fenestrated sheepskin pads, then yes.

IMHO, the TH-X00 with Dekoni pads and rings will go toe-to-toe with any headphone under $1000.  :D:wink:

I don't know about that, I like my he500 better.

Anyone here have experience with the Elears?
What do yall think?

Honestly, it doesn't really matter what we think.

It sounds like you've got a can't lose deal there.  If you like the Elear's, then keep them.  If you don't, sell them and double your money.  Either way, you win!

Sadly, no longer available.

But you're right, they sounded pretty sweet (if they didn't break after a week!).

Bite on a 560, there's some solid deals out there.. it's an endgame can for most, for sure.

I was just asking my friends whether I should upgrade to the HE500 or Elear, lol.

Not that it matters now since the he-500 is gone, but I have both & they're different sounding cans.  For what I imagine one might be able to get the he-500 for, their hard to beat.

Dollar for dollar, the HE-500 is right at the top vs. anything. The midrange beats anything I've heard, but it's strong top to bottom. Easy to amp too.

Sound signature preference is always most important thing, though.

The TH-X00 is currently my only headphone with MrSpeakers Aeon preorder to be arriving soon...Joined the Dekoni drop with the sheepskin, velour, and fenestrated sheepskin, plus attentuation rings on all three. The wallet hit is hard and sadly it puts a delay on the next two headphone purchases. Though, I do love these headphones. (Next two purchases are going to be Monolith M1060's and HD650's.) After I acquire these epic pair of four headphones I will be done for quite a while (minus upgrades like cables or pads of course).

Hey Josh, I see you have the Jot as a DAC/amp.  When you decide to upgrade your source, strongly consider one of the Multibit DACs from Schiit.  They are incredible.  I would start at Bimby but Gumby is really exceptional.

Does anyone know if theres a way to buy a spare pair of pads of the original ones?

Since you live in Sweden and Massdrop doesn't ship outside of the US, your best bet is to post a WTB (Wanted To Buy) request for the pads in the For Sale / Trade Forums.

If that doesn't work, I did some research and discovered that Fostex makes two similar earpads that look identical to the TH-X00 pads but have different part numbers and prices.

The EX-EP-50 are for the TH-500RP and the EX-EP-61 are for the TH-610.

The Adorama page claims that the EX-EP-50 pads are for both the TH-500RP and the TH-X00, but I don't know if that is accurate.  Perhaps someone here knows for sure?

EX-EP-50    http://www.fostex.jp/products/ex-ep-50/    https://www.adorama.com/ftexep50.html     Price: $80/pair

EX-EP-61    http://www.fostex.jp/products/ex-ep-61/    https://www.adorama.com/ftexep61.html     Price: $70/pair

Welp, Massdrop decided to ship and save a few pennies by using FedEx Smartpost so I have to wait an extra day for USPS to take over now... FedEX stopped in chino and sent off to USPS this time and usually goes to Palm Springs then delivery for regular fedex deliveries. It's only a few miles from Chino to Palm Springs. I live in between them. -_- This entire week said ETA Monday but now it's Tuesday as of a few hours ago... It was at the Chino Fedex spot since yesterday evening and didn't get the info sent over to USPS til 12 hours later. I hate smart/sure post...
