The advantages of a fixed cable are not to be underestimated ...

Too funny!

Thanks, Danger Toast—the Bluetooth feature explains the lack of cables. No PIN was given in the manual to pair them. I tried tapping 0000 and 1234 on the ear cups but no luck. Any other ideas?

Well, necessity being the mother of invention, I remembered that I had a spare balanced cable lying around for some long-departed HD-650s. It's a Moon Audio V2 Silver Dragon cable from 2007! (Drew Baird didn't even take credit card payments on his site back then).

So I can confirm that the HD650 connectors are indeed compatible with the TH-900 MkIIs.

Time to do some burn-in...

I don't have any experience with these type of connectors, how securely do the connectors keep the cables attached on the Mk2? Wondering if there is some sort of locking mechanism to keep them securely attached otherwise I am concerned the connectors may detach with the weight of the cable.

Any thoughts appreciated from the new owners.

No idea but on the HD650s there's no locking mechanism but the stock cables as well as any aftermarket cable I tried with them are very secure and tight.

I have a very heavy & long balanced Moon Audio Silver Dragon cable from an old pair of HD-650s that I'm using with my new Mk2s. No problem with it staying connected—even when dancing.

I will say that the first time I attached them I didn't click them all the way in. No problems since then.

Also, I just ordered a Black Dragon cable and noticed that Moon Audio now lists the HD-650 connector as supported for the TH-900 MK2s.

Agreed. First time I tried to fit, I thought it was too loose. After examining the terminals and confirmed they were the same size, I nudged them in a little harder. Tighter, more secure fit than the original cables. Shorter cable is more manageable. Sounds amazing.

mmm.......is it a new, redesigned tesla driver? I mean, what changed in the component side, aside from the detachable cable port ??

Looks like they're just detachable, and they sell a balanced cable on the site for it, but no differences whatsoever on the driver side.  I suspect with the new TH-610 coming to replace the TH-600, and the TH-X00 reportedly being better than the 610, they'll likely release an update to the TH-500RP.  Looks like sonically the TH-900 is pretty much perfect as is to them, and they're just updating lines with removable cables, and some tweaks to their other lines.  I feel like an open-back TH-900 would be perfect.

They did leave just enough room for a TH-1000!

Hopefully!  I think an HP-A4BL is on my list for the future!  If I get the TH-900 MK2 with Balanced connectors - getting an HP-A4BL, and if I get the ZMF Omni Cherrywood - gonna shell out for a Lyr 2 and Bifrost Multibit.  Either way I'll have something to last a -looooong- time.
