Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

@vonBaron asked about pads, I posted my impressions.

As for Pro 82 v2, you should try 009 first to fully appreciate it. It's hard to believe how close (and in some aspects better) a 60$ portable closed headphone can come to a 3800$ open electrostat...

Anyway, TH900 is mostly for bassheads - they wouldn't like natural sound anyway.
GM200 would be a better choice, it's sounds like TH900 without the hole in the mids and the treble peaks:
With all due respect, you are making quite a few comments with definitive exclamation. I am going to assume you just forgot the "IMO" part after your proclamations.

I enjoy the TH900. I also enjoy Stellia and D9200 and VC, all four are closed. You are speaking open back headphones you enjoy, yet the TH900 are closed, not apples to apples. Out of all, I prefer the D9200, again my subjective opinion. I also preferred Stellia to VC and so on. All subjective.

Also, you said a balanced and natural signature is how the artist intended us to listen to their music, not sure what that means.

Again "graduating" from the TH900 is subjective, IMO you took a step back in your gear.

Anyway, I probably shouldn't have fed you, but couldn't resist.

i own the utopia, which is widely regarded as a 'totl' dynamic headphone but it has never caused me to question the th900's capabilities or diminished my enjoyment of it
Some people, especially those with a penchant for both graphs and the Takstar Pro 82 (never heard of them personally, but ok), do not have the cognitive flexibility to comprehend that an individual can enjoy a wide range of headphones without having to categorize oneself either as a "basshead" or an "audiophile."

Come on, it's 2021 - binary thinking is so passé, man.

It’s come at last.

At last, it’s come...

The time that I knew would come at last has Come At Last.

My Fostex pads are old and need to be replaced!

I want to recreate the original design intent. No Dekoni Hybrid or Lawton pads for me!

I recall that I can order the pads for my TH-900 from Fostex, so I don’t anticipate a problem there.

But how in the world do I remove the old pads?

More importantly, how do I put on the new pads?

I looked on this thread for Replace Pads, but I must have missed the How To.

Help!?

Why not Lawton? They retain FR but add a little more space.

Changing pads is indeed a bi&tch on these. Here's the guide I used:

I had a pair arrive yesterday for my 610's.. seem decent quality and have messed with the sound too much. Maybe a tiny bit of change to the bass and more open. I certainly prefer them to the dekonis which I tried

I got the TH900 MK2 and love them for my edm. Very clear sound and bass is awesome it's fun to listen to. To be honest it's the only Dynamic I like, I had the ZMF lineup all the way up to the VC but those headphones didn't give me the euphoria like the 900 series. I even had that 909 but like the 900 better.

How would you describe the differences between the Verite Closed and the Fostex TH900? I am aware that they are quite different.

VC is veiled compared to the 900 and bass isn't the same level.

VC is veiled compared to the 900 and bass isn't the same level.
I wouldn't say it's veiled in comparison; I'd say it's more natural. The TH900 is energetic and fairly aggressive, it excels in slam and impact. The bass on the VC extends as deeply but its presentation is more subtle. It's more about texture than slam. Mid-range is the strength of the VC while the top end is smoother and slightly more refined than TH900.

VC is far more picky in terms of being source dependent. TH900 goes with pretty much anything that can drive it. They're both great headphones and compliment each other well.
