thanks for all the info, would you say these would be a good addition if I have the following headphones:
HD-800, HD-700, HD-650, HD-598, HD-239, HE-560, HE-400i, HE-400, RS2e, SR-225e, SennGrado, LCD-2f, EL8 open, SRH-1840, and X1

(alternative headphones interested in T-1 (used $780),  TH-600 (new $520), Ether (new $1500 est)

Addition? Why not replace 3/4 of that collection with the TH900 and another flagship?

Got my girlfriend using them also so good to have an extra or two.  Also, I've been keeping most since I like their various sound signatures and we have 5 computers where she and I listen, 2 in living room, 1 in bedroom, and 2 on lanai.
Also can lend one to a friend and not have to go without.

Yes, of course. Nothing out there like the fostex house-sound. If you've heard Denon D5000 / D7000 you know what I'm talking about. TH900 is that but refined and better in every way.

Never heard a Denon D5000 / D7000.  Living in Hawaii doesn't help much when it comes to electronics, I think I found only two "HIFI" stores here on Oahu so its hard to try before you buy.
Is the double the price difference between TH-600 and TH-900 worth it?

Worth is a relative and personal value. Maybe ask is it worth not to buy th900. It was my first can, bought Un tested and have no regrets.

This will be the first time I get to listen to a headphone before buying, found a used one for sale here so will check it out tomorrow or Sunday.

I haven't heard TH600 so I couldn't say. But I love the TH900 and would buy it again if I have to.

If you can afford it, yes.I recently had both for a few weeks. I'm someone who has bias not like others. I do everything to justify the CHEAPER option, but after the first few days, it was clear the TH900 just outdoes the TH600 in every way. The bass is better controlled, the mids don't sound constricted, and the musicality is through the roof, in comparison.

They sound similar, but it's as if the TH600 went through a low-fi filter in comparison. Don't get me wrong, at the price, I simply haven't heard much better than the TH600. It is wonderful. However, it defeinitely doesn't stack up to the TH900.

Short comparisons are bad, because they are quitre similar. You have to spend time with them to see just what the TH900 improves on, then it becomes quite obvious. Those who have done short comparisons at meets to me have no validity in their claims, because they need time, IMHO. I say this as someone who initially throught the two were near identical the first night I compared.

In simplest terms, the TH600 sounds digital, while the TH900 sounds more analogous and more refined.
