For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

The link worked for me still, but I went ahead and edited it with a fresh link. Hopefully it works now. Let me know. 👍

Topical Shenanigans:

Still on the modded Hifiman Audivinas, but I've switched over to my modded Schiit Lyr (w/ Siemens Gold Pin ECC88s) and a Modi Multibit 2 fed by a Wiim Mini. Between the Lyr and the Audivinas, this rig has quite a few mods that represent many hours of work, experimentation, and tinkering that went into shaping them. The Lyr was more straightforward as most of the mods were simply component upgrades. It makes me all warm and fuzzy to think of what each was like when I first got them and what they've become with a bit of ingenuity and a little effort. Also, I have a ton of fun when I do mods and DIY builds and get to mold gear to my preferences. I learn things, get to practice problem solving and thinking outside the box, and get to have a bunch of fun listening and comparing the gear from one iteration to the next.

Up next in my queue is another 2016 album: Are You Synthetic? by Voyag3r. Voyag3r are a progressive psych/stoner rock band native to Detroit. Their music features a lot of synth tracks that coyld be straight out of the 80s. The rhythm section is tight knit, laying out a groove from the pocket and setting the table for some epic synth and guitar progressions. That formula is obviously the band's bread and butter, but they do also have the occosional track that flips the script, using the synths to keep time and join yhe rhythm section while the drums are drawn up to a more dynamic role supporting and sometimes driving the melody or a layered bridge. These guys have developed the kond of chemistry that only comes with countless hours of playing together and making sure every ones is on the same page. The easy, relaxed feeling that comes with that chemstry and confidence pervades the music and makes it fun to listen to. This album has layers for those that want to dig deeper, but also provides catchy riffs and a familiar pace for the listeners that are more inclined to a casual kicked back sesh. Two thumbs up from yours truly. 👍👍😎

Yep, link works fine now :)

That Gold Note DS-10...that brings tears to my eyes when paired with the Hifiman HE1000se or HE1000se and HeadAmp GS-X Mini. Glorious radiant warmth and velvety smooth sound that was built for sheer musical enjoyment.

Hehe more than 2 years later I bought a pair of HE1000Se. Waiting for delivery. Still have the DS-10 Plus, will never sell it. ;)

I can never get enough of this CD - Eagles Hell Freezes Over (XRCD2 / 1994/2000). I got this CD for the song In The City, the closing song from the movie The Warriors, but there's so much more on this classic. And I'll repeat once again, these XRCDs are impressive in sound and dynamic range. If you've got a good system with a CD player try out one of these discs. I've several of them and they all great sounding.

Tonight I'm running my ThieAudio Prestige LTDs driven by my Cayin N8ii. Lately when I'm looking for a pair I can kick back and enjoy listening with no matter what genre comes up, the LTDs are on of a couple clutch options. They're definitely my favorite of the ThieAudio stuff I've tried which is basically everything I'm interested in except perhaps the Valhallas. 🤔

On deck in my queue are Kanoo with their release from November, Iterate. Kanoo are a UK-based duo whos music is an interesting blend of prog, post-rock, and electronic elements. Their album came up as a Bandcamp rec around its release dat and I tagged it for listening, but never got around to it until a few weeks ago. This will be my second time through it and I'm interested to see how it hits me the second time with fresher ears and without yhe benefit of first time novelty. That said, this blend of genres is something I'm coming across more often recently and I'm excited to see it being developed by such obviously talented artists becaus I feel like it has potential to be taken pretty far and really be part of integrating musical genres and worlds that generally see themselves as separate from one another. 👍😎

I'm stoked that you're diggin' so many of then lately. I've got more Spaceking releases to explore today, as well. I've been exploring the stoner and psych rock genres quite a bite lately and they're one of the bands that pretty much immediately caught my attention. For some reason the bands I in these and related genres seem to be either really good or legitimately terrible with very few in between.

Topical Shampoo (I went to type 'Shenaningans' and somehow got autocorrected to 'Shampoo', but it made me chuckle so it stays 😂)

This morning, I've got the DCA Stealths doing their thing running off my modded Schiit Lyr (w/ Siemens Gold Pin ECC88s) and a Modi Multibit 2 fed by a Wiim Mini. I meant to swap out the tubes for the Amperex-Tektronix Red Labels that I favor with the Stealths, but I got distracted and forgot. I'm kinda glad I did because this combo is actually sounding quite nice this morning.

Up first in my queue this morning are Black Ladder with their 2018 effort, An Ambitious Few. Black Ladder are an Austin-based prog band who've got a real eclectic mix of influences in their work. Just on this album, you'll hear elements symphonic prog, funk, jazz, psych rock, and more work their way into the music. The band's use of non-traditional instruments like flute, yak horn, kazoo, etc is smartly done and nicely integrated into the music rather than sounding thrown in as you sometimes hear with bands reaching for an artsier/proggier sound. The keys/piano/organ are a centerpiece of the band's songwriting and sound and I really enjoy how they're used to drive, and even define, the direction a given track will be taking. Add to that a drummer and bassist who are comfortable stepping out of the pocket to push the envelope and you end up with some really well-exeuted tracks that can be hard to label with a single genre, but sound fresh and totally unforced. These guys can count me as a big fan and I can't recommend thehr music highly enough. 🤘😎

Note: They have a more recent album released last year which is quite good, but I favor this one and I think it's a better representation of the band's range. If you've never heard Black Ladder before, this is the LP to start with, IMO.
