For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

Very interesting!
She didn't want to spend too much money, or simply prefer the analog sound?

No, she and my family had the money. I don't even think she ever really listened to anything else to know if she preferred the sound though she did always say she liked the way it sounded. I think it was more that she was just a product of a time when you didn't replace well built abd functional items regardless of whether you could afford it. It was always a battle to convince her to upgrade anything like that.

Just remembering how she was made me smile so big. I miss my grandmother. For a woman who was only 4'11" she had such a big personality.

The more technically limited, the more imagination magic happens. I think in the old days people could be quite good at vividly reproducing the missing parts in their mind.
Cool grandmother, her music collections must have shaped your taste too I believe :)

On the k240s. Best it's sounded yet, in its new chain.

Pennies from a skyscraper can kill
I've lined up my change
On the window sill
Watched for hours
People down below
The wind has frozen my eyes
Lost the courage
Could not push them off
Pulled my head inside :musical_note:

This is how I grew up. Sadly, the young guys I work with mostly don't understand this at all.

I was just listening to Mahler 5 symphony. The dynamic range of the beggining of the first movement is excellent to try headphones. The symphony also includes the famous adagietto, a beautiful love letter Mahler wrote to his wife. This one is an excellent version

‘The Standards Trio’ (Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette), recorded live during their run at the Blue Note in 1994 and released the following year on ecm. A spectacular recording of a fabulous jazz trio in top form and a wonderful introduction to these gifted musicians if you don’t already know them; a ‘must have’ if you do. I started this morning randomly with disc III, but it sounds so pure, both musically and sonically, that I am tempted to listen to the whole box today, while SWMBO slaves over the hot stove prepares for tomorrow. (19 people - the family is growing!)

WOW $2.99 in ~1975! Witnessing the debut of legendary recordings must be very exciting!
My sons, both in their 30’s, say the same thing. It was a different time. That was just our music. The music industry has changed in unpredictable ways, and it’s only in retrospect that we realize just how lucky we were to have been in HS and college in the 1970’s. And our parents hated it, I can’t tell you how many records my father ruined by throwing them against the wall (not everyone had loving, supportive parents, but that’s for my shrink…) - another thing my sons complain about is that they can’t piss me off with music, except by listening to music that they don’t want to hear either.

Oh no, not the evolution vs. creation topic again :D

You're gonna get us all banned, 3.0

The sad thing is that I actually thought about that when I made the post. Anyone who is offended should feel free to change 4 billion to 6 thousand. No judgment. Now let’s talk about wires…🤣
