Dedicated my weekend to the Aure while I'm writing the review for it.
Slow and steady growing to become one of my favourites that I have ever tried.

Topping E70 + A90 Discrete clean neutral power with some warmth.

Grado RS-1x (F-cushions) << Grado RA-1 (twin 9V battery power): D418B6B2-E162-4CF7-81E1-055A530AB129.jpeg1207490E-C56B-4778-AF9B-E70259C47F00.jpeg [Impulse!: August, 1961.] This album is a masterpiece - in total, in arrangements, in solos. Everyone is in unreal musical form. A must listen.

Speaking of unreal form … the RS-1x / RA-1 duo. The absence of electronic haze, from battery DC power without conversion from AC, is startling. Music blossoms from nothingness: unbelievable note / chord onset and decay.
In my "top 10 jazz albums" list. A masterpiece.

Headphones & dac/amp: ATH-MSR7 w/ Yaxi comfort pads + RØDE AI-1 audio interface.
Currently listening to: Cairodrome - CoLD SToRAGE, from the Slipstream album. Childhood memories.

Really appreciate how the Yaxi pads change the transition between sub, bass, and lower midrange. With the shape of my head, it seems to further intensify the sibilance & hiss, however. A 3db 1khz tilt in Equalizer APO makes it bearable for more than a few songs.

Interesting selection of earbuds and amp for this album. Is there a rationale? Focus on timbre?

I got a VE set as a gift from Wild Lee, never been a earbud person before. I can see it as something that is about to change as I did not know that earbuds could be this good. Overall the sound of the Zen 3.0 is very natural sounding with slightly warm mids and treble. And the bass is solid to be a earbud.

The amp is just a really good pairing with the Zen and ads a touch of analogue sound while also expanding the soundstage more.
So this combo for me is perfect especially for acoustic music, love it for most jazz genres.

I've recently been introduced to earbuds too. Good with jazz / acoustic as long as you have a quiet listening environment. Any outside noise is a killer. Love the fit, much preferable to iems.

JRiver Media Center 31 > SMSL SU9 > SMSL SH9 > Beyerdynamic DT1990 pro

13th Star (2007) by Fish - On the last leg of my Fish playthrough with this, his 10th solo outing. I returned to the DT1990's for this as they have a lot more heft than the HE400i's and the music just sounds "fuller".
