Having a little post-show sesh to wind down. I decided to go with the Audeze LCD-4s tonight since they're a bit more forgiving that some of my other options (see album below for why that's necessary). Running them off the SMSL VMV P2 with the Gustard R26 pulling DAC and streamer duties.

I'm giving my daily album from the 1001 albums list a listen: Sam Cooke's Live at the Harlem Square Club (1963). This is an absolutely killer concert and I would've loved to be there. The recording quality, like many live albums from this era, leaves much to be desired. I chose the best version of it that I'm aware of and grabbed the LCD-4s because I find them to be detailed while also being more forgiving than the Susvaras or my DCA options for example. Sam Cooke is a legend and for good reason. He has some of the most memorable lyrics in modern music. 👍😎

Bill Nelson - guitar "god" from BeBop Deluxe and Red Noise, he had a very long often quirky off center/alt solo career, starting with new wave influenced pop, art rock, migrating through soundtracks, Eno-esque soundscapes, found sounds, back to more typical songs. Attacking his oeuvre w/o a map is a Herculean task, so I'll pull out some of the more notable works. He worked with Eno, David Sylvian, Takahashi (Yellow Magic Orchestra drummer), Bowie, etc.

1982: The Love That Whirls (Diary of a Thinking Heart) guitar, synths, lyrics, art - quirky in parts, but, this recording has a nice flow that really comes through after 2-3 times through.

1983: Chimera Synth pop w/ Mick Karn's fretless bass giving it a bit of the Japan's best output feel, romantic, similar to the prior recording in how it comes together when you hear it all the way through, in a way not always suggested by some of the individual pieces.

1987: Map of Dreams soundtrack that is athmospheric, interesting and quite nice

1995: Practically Wired (or how I became a Guitarboy) - along with The Love That Whirls - his best work, a mature mix of guitars, synths, and some found sounds.

1997: Magnificent Dream People - much like the prior recording, but with a lighter touch and some humor.

BTW, he does specialize in obscure song titles.

My hotel room has a balcony this time so I decided to make use of it while it's still dark outside by enjoying a sesh and beer (Abbey des Rocs - Hainaut Brewery definitely recommended) on the balcony before I hit the hay. Switched to IEMs for the occasion - Subtonic Storms through the Cayin N8ii. 👌

For musical entertainment I'm going to continue my journey through The Complete Studio Recordings 2015CE-2017CE from The Comet is Coming. This is a great collection from a band I have found myself listening to a lot lately. I went ahead and snagged this off their Bandcamp page so I won't have to bother with switching albums or even making a queue/playlist. I started listening to it last night so I'm just picking up where I left off. Great kinda psychedelic fusion and I highly recommend checking this band out. 🤘😎
