Hi, I have a pair of 7236 in my OTL Euforia, I bought them for 150 dollar/euro. Then Woo sold them for 240 dollar a pair but at Woo they are sold out as well as the 5998. My wishes are idle. I'd wish some factory would build a new 5998, or 7236. Linlai Elite 5998 nor psvane ACME 5998 will be built. To whom could you ask to build a tube that is sold out???

I doubt seriously that any company is going to be willing to build these new. In my opinion, your best bet is old stock on eBay.

Good luck! :)

I have a 421A tube that makes a popping sound occasionally. It also is noticeably dimmer than the tube it is paired with. Is my fear of using it justified?

Apparent dimness usually does not correlate with performance so I wouldn't over index on that. Popping on warm up is not uncommon for the 5998 or 421A tube, especially if it hasn't been used in a while. How often and how long after power up do you hear the popping?

It has been a while since I used it but I recall that the popping is intermittent and occurs after the tube has had some time to warm up.

You could try resoldering the pins. The most common issues with degraded pin solder occur with '50's and '60's Russian tubes, but I've had several Tung Sols that were noisy and/or sputtering until I resoldered, and after that they are as quiet as can be.

Another later pair of Chatham/TungSol 5998. 1984 I think which seems a little odd as TungSol as a company didn’t exist by then.

Maybe I got this all wrong! But shouldn’t these be 1958 week 46?

As my Chatham clear top with the early rectangular mica support is 1957 week 43. And the chrome top 1958 week 17.

For those that have been following my little adventure with these tubes. They are with the chap now who tests my tubes for me. I’m figuring it won’t prove anything!

If nothing else, it should prove one important thing: no shorts. Hopefully.

I think you could be correct good sir. The condition of these tubes must have thrown me - they look like new - even the boxes, and test well over 100% emissions and GM. I thought "no way could these be from the 50's".

There's lots of good things that came from the '50's, although some things age better than others. 🤣 🤣
