Foobar guide for idiots

Well I kinda know how to skin Foobar by ripping off code from others', but agree it could be made easier. It was a simple case of download program and packs then apply, to skin my XP into black vista style (and also logon screen!)

It took me 3 days to get foobar where i liked the look. To me its plain, easy, eveything placed out evenly. With all the plugins you can get, its the best in my eyes.

on the contrary, it takes me probably 2 minutes to setup foobar to my liking

-all dsp off
-all replaygain off
-setup output to KS:Prodigy7.1
-change Display>Default User Interface colours to my likings (grey/white on black instead of the default black on white)

and that's about it

i don't bother to setup database or fancy albumart, etc... i play music using explorer's right click "Play in foobar2000" cuz my music is already sorted by folder

so in conclusion, i'd actually prefer them not change anything about the GUI, but perhaps release an "itunes" version of foobar separately?

FYI I am actually white, but with so much asian fetish, my eyes started to permanently squint, my hair color changed from the ultra stress, my brain can now process video much better- hence I do not have seizures form those crazy animation shows, and yea I press the buttons on my burr brown(now TI) graphing calculator rather than the buttons on a girl...

The final stroke came when I replaced a resistor and overclocked my calculator to around 18MHz.. after then I received the honorary kung pow award, and suddenly my arms got a lot less hairier

Actually I'm not young either... @20 calender years, I have tinnitus, am extremely lethargic, 220+ cholesterol, really thin, and cannot run one lap (25meters) without being able to "taste the blood in my lungs" So basically my body is 90 years old- I was going to say 80 years old but an 80 year old man runs laps every morning in short shorts during the winter and it makes me look shameful.

Honestly, being azn sucks, as there are already billions on the planet and you really have to be spectacular to stand out, whereas being white, they go **** a white guy use teh clean dishes NOW!

Plus not to mention looking nerdy no matter what. If you wear glasses they call you nerd, if you don't they call you a gangster wannabe, if you try to look normal, they call you a twinkle. I guess I'm just a proud twinkster..

Wow, if that is you in your avatar...you the most chinese looking white guy i have ever seen in my life. Im only half chinese (father is Chinese, mother is Portuguese). I still have the eyes though, you can clearly see i am chinese. My brother however has round eye. He hardly even looks chinese at all, most people think he is Italian. Considering his name is Tony and he has dark hair and dark skin.

Ya, i wanted to go alittle crazy....so my whole layout took me a few days. I didnt spend like 72hours or anything, just a few hours a night for 3 days, i say about 8-9 hours total. However my foobar doesnt look stock at all, everything is in a different place.

foobar can be made to look REALLY good if u invest time in it (like HighLife did)

i just didn't really care for looks, half the time it's minimized anyways

I still prefer iTunes though and I've tried to get foobar 2k to look and function like iTunes but there is no reason.

I honestly don't know why so many people prefer Foobar 2000 to a lot of other players there is virtually no difference in sound quality people say "Kernal Streaming and ASIO Drivers" Make the sound better.....I say BS even on there website they deny it.

Q: Does foobar2000 sound better than other players?
A: No. Most of “sound quality differences” people “hear” are placebo effect (at least with real music), as actual differences in produced sound data are below their noise floor (1 or 2 last bits in 16bit samples). Foobar2000 has sound processing features such as software resampling or 24bit output on new high-end soundcards, but most of other mainstream players are capable of doing the same by now.

I gave up on Foobar. I'm just not that obsessed to try and "learn it" I've worked with computers and crappy software interfaces for upwards of 20 years now, and Foobar is one of the worst I've run across. Call me lazy, but I don't want to spend 20-30 hours trying to get it to function like another media player.

That said, I hate iTunes for windows, it's laggy, bloated, and doesn't offer the features that it SHOULD.

Maybe you tried 0.8? 0.9 is a whole new different world, much much easier to work with

It might be an older version.

foobar2000 is simply and easy to customize

I can even connect both my speaker and headphone to my X-FI and tell foobar2000 which one to use, I don't think anyway other program can do that

I think you can do that with Winamp...if you have a USB headset or a USB soundcard/dac.

yeah, but you can't connect both of them to one source could you?

Both Winamp and Foobar? I dunno about that...or you mean sound card and DAC? I think you can do it too..

I love the DSPs in Foobar, reason why i use it over winamp.

that oversampling gimmick is fun isnt it?
evil_smiley.gif
It hogged my cpu harder than seti does, leaving my mouse moving on the desktop at a wonderful ~6fps. Imo the eq is probably the most useful for me. On my mac, I could have used nicecast or audio hijack and run vst plugins and audio units, which I have a nice collection of..

Ive yet to find a nice resampler- secret rabbit code looks good, but I think I would do better if I just gave in and got a real upsampling source.. Though I think tubes are a lot sexier than upsampling... 512k 768k.. 1024k.. its all the same.. like the curve on a circle approaching infinity but never reaching there. Tubes and tube buffers on the other hand are the answer! A glass of vacuum is the perfect circle
very_evil_smiley.gif
!

Oh the tube emulation plugin sucks.... most crossfeeds suck, the only acceptable one being the ATSurround processor, which is like the epitome of software room emulation. The moment I turn it on I can feel the freaking headphones just float infront of me and disappear.. Then again it affects the sound so much, almost like an overdone eq with delay effects..

Jan 31, 2007 at 6:23 PM Post #29 of 43
Im using ASIO which is 16bit 48khz only. Im also using SSRC upsample to 48khz. Im using the Crossfeed DSP, but its sooo light. Hardly noticeable at all, there is another one i might try..supposed to be more agressive. Im using Advance Limit, EQ, SSRC, Crossfeed right now.

Even though i think im going to use my CE595 as my primary source....PC is ok, but i just like having different controls then my gaming machine. I use a laptop, but its hard as nice as my CE595.

oh my bad, I had the "ultra mode" checked on the upsampling plugin, thats why my system stutters. When I compared my virtual instruments running at 192k vs 44.1k on reason, the difference to me was day and night, and then some. When I tried upsampling in ultra mode an eac'd redbook, I couldn't discern the slightest hint of anything. Maybe my ears are low rez, my audio card/amp/cans are trash- but to put into perspective, I could hear the microdetail brought out by sacd vs redbook on even my budget sacd player.
