Focal Utopia General Discussion

Which Lazuli cable do you recommend for the Utopia? When I went to the website there were about 5 different versions.

Also, does anyone have experience of buying from the UK? Vinh has been in contact with me but I assume there will be customs charges as well.

Thanks

I got the Reference with a furutech 1/4 when had the Chord Dave and had switch out for furutech XLR balanced for the Focal Arche. I have no idea of furutech plugs improve the sound at all. They do cost extra

The Lazuli Reference seems to be the popular choice. Here is a review of the Nirvana (their most expensive choice) from Audio Bacon. Have fun deciding...

I got the Lazuli Reference on Monday, and I'm a bit less than halfway through break-in time of 100 hours or so. So far, so good!

Thanks for the link to the Nirvana. Read the article but it is out of my budget. Jay has golden ears, doesn't he?

Focusing on the Lazuli Reference though, very interested to hear what a cross-section of people on Head-Fi think, compared to Jay's views on Audio Bacon. How does the Lazuli R compare to the old and new stock cables from Focal, and esp. after an extended period of listening. Are people still happy after a couple of years or does the novelty wear off.

Not to exclude current / new listening experiences as well, of course. If you are willing to post.

Here in the UK there is a bit of a preference for the Nordost Heimdal 2 but that might be because they are readily available, vs an international order for the Lazulis.

Good for you!! I've been using that as my DAC for about a month or so, and so far, I've just left it 'as is', with none of those many, many sound processing adjustments available on it, and I think it sounds GREAT! In fact, I replaced the Hugo 2 in my setup with this, which I like better and is a lot less expensive. Got that signal running into a Quicksilver Audio tube headphone amp, and we got some serious sounds! Later this week I'm expecting to receive a couple of tubes for upgrading the amp (didn't figure ones that came in a plain white box and just said 'China' on them were of the top-most quality; contacted Brent Jessee for buying replacements).

I won't use the DSP. I prefer the Neutron Player. There I use the equalizer to adjust the Utopia to Oratory's Hamann curve. I will not connect an external amplifier

So with my MHA200 on order anyone got a recommendation for a good dac to pair? I'd prefer something with USB c or normal usb input so I could hook up my android device to it via USB Audio like I do with the WA11.

Cool! Let us know how you like that. And that should also shorten up the time for reading the instruction book....

I don't know how well it would pair, but you could do a lot worse than at least looking into that RME DAC; might not be what you're looking for, but it's a pretty fascinating piece of gear from a German company that primarily makes equipment for professional recording studios, and it shows....

Yeah, I've heard of it.
Is it also available as an audio book? 😬

That’s a hard question to answer until the MHA200 is out in the wild and there is some feedback or review to use as a guidepost.
