What @Wildcatsare1 said about the comparison to you is pretty spot on in my opinion.

Listening to HD800 and Focal Clear out of the Hugo 2-

Female voices in the song "say something loving" by the XX- sounds like they have more body to them on the Clears the HD800. The HD800 comes off a little more sibilant with "s" sounding words.

The HD800 sounds a little more frail or thin in general to the Clears.

HD800 still has wider sound staging though, if that is important to someone.

Transient speed goes to the Clear. This was best illustrated for me on the song "Mediterranean Sundance/Rio Ancho (live)" at 6:09. The finger plucking of the guitar is wicked fast and each note is very "clear" for back of a better word with the Clear. The HD800 is still no slouch (we all know that) but it was more fleshed out with the Clear. By the way I highly recommending listening to that whole track. It's my favorite right now!

I tried volume matching to the best of my ability. some tracks I got up to light purple with the HD800 at a maximum. Majority of times I stayed around light blue and light green for Hd800 and Clear respectively.

amazing amp . not the hugo. tried with the utopia xlr output and one of the best imo, according to how it sounds probably with the hd800too

wait i have also -4db set from hqplayer, so i mostly listen in cyan for a comfortable level, that is pretty much green without lowering the output from HQp.. and it s hugo1 that has a bit less output power..anyway that track is recorded pretty low, especially the end part that i m talking about.
try
I have no problem from the fostex even louder

lol, white? When I'm listening loud I'm at deep green, never go much past that.

I can’t get beyond red. It’s far too painful. White is ear death IMO. I can get to the beginning of white on the HE1 v2 but even that is more than a healthy level

I typically start out lower and work my way up, usually ending up in the green range. I typically enjoy some "herbs" while I listen though, which I'm sure leads to me turning it up more and more.

It's nice that so many people either have, or have access to this same setup to compare listening levels so easily.

I fortunately have a small advantage of a store with lots of gear to venture off into to check some of these issues for myself. More often than not, I can’t duplicate the issues I read about but I never punish my ears.
