Focal Utopia General Discussion

I'm surprised there isn't more outrage over the discrepancies in measured Utopia's. It seems w/ the exception of Tyll's and Jude's first review pairs all subsequent Utopia's are flawed. It would be reassuring if people who feel they have one of the non bright variants could get their headphones measured and post them.
I suspect its because we still love our utopia and still consider them the best dynamic headphone available

to my ears, they are beautiful sounding, very fun, very involving. most other headphone seem very boring in compariosn

So, wait, these are not the "world's best headphone" anymore? Mind you, I haven't tried the Utopia and am not trying to mock but it's interesting that a "defective" pair led to that proclamation. Greatness by accident, mediocrity by design?

To hang your speech on a single review seems a bit short sighted. Also when you have no real time on a product is your opinion of any consequence? Probably not.

For your information, I was referring to Tyll at Inner Fidelity's review and the headline "world's best headphone." It was then subsequently revealed that he received a possible "defective" pair, or one that wasn't tuned like the many others sold. I wasn't giving a "speech," or an "opinion." Just commenting on how interesting he came to that conclusion based on those circumstances.

Also, I've heard the Elear and it's a great headphone. I have no doubt the Utopia would be the same.

Nothing I say here will affect your sales, so no worries. As you say, my comment is of no consequence.

I see your point. World's Greatest title based on a possibly defective pair. It's humorous and ironic. It will be interesting to see Tyl's revised review, assuming he does one, which I would think he would.

May focal will reverse engineer Tyl's review Utopia to figure out why it was so good to Tyl! :)

I've resigned myself to the fact that the Utopia is the best (for me) and I can't get away with anything cheaper. Paired with the Mjolnir 2 and good tubes (heck, even the stock tubes are OK) and for most music, it's the best. I think for a funner pounding beat for Pop and some rock, I might like the TH900 9I don't listen to too much dance, house, hip hop, or rap). For orchestral classical, the Koss ESP/950 might be better. No doubt to me that the utopia is the best all arounder with a modestly priced amp, though. The Stax 007 and 009 from the Blue Hawaii certainly sound awesome too.

One of the main reason why the Utopia is the best dynamic headphones in my opinion is simply how easy it is to drive out of many things....Stax is awesome, but it need heavy weight champions energizers :D

When we see it from this point of view, a good energizer run 3-4K and the 009 for 3-4K. That is 6-8K easily, and only stationary. The Utopia is only 4K or 1/2 the price and can be plugged straight into your iPad just fine lol! Then you can even walk to your closest restaurant having dinner and jamming on with it :D

Wearing full sized headphones outside makes me feel like this:

No way I would wear my Utopias outside. I know you were joking (I think you were), so just sayin'

Yes and no. Certainly true that the Utopia can be run from a portable, but for DIY, you can build an SRX Plus for around 1k, and the 007MkII for 1.5-2k, which reverses the price equation.

I'm not at all concerned about TSAV's sales but I do thank you for your sensitivity about it.

What I find crazy is all the comments that depend of Jude or Tyll or both. Their impressions are equally credible as anyone here. They are not particular experts of any kind but they do offer up consistent reviews. If you find they are consistent with your personal findings they may be offering a valuable opinion. If they are varying opinions from yours than it's likely not a review or impression that could help you in your personal determination. Jude is cool, Tyll is cool, Stillheart is cool but they are not gods and their opinions carry as much weight as anyone that has spent good amounts of time with any given product.

If you owned a pair of Utopia I would accept your opinions regardless of what your opinion is. Since you don't, I find some of your comments a little out of line. I have no issues with you personally, I have issues with opinions that have no experience with the product being commented on.

So is it your contention that Focal should have created a Focal headphone DIY kit so you would be more compelled to appreciate the Focal products?

Well I guess another poster recognized that my prior comment was just based on the humor or irony inherent in the situation. What was out of line? What do you object to?

You really are full of yourself. I remember that from the Z1R thread and continues here.

No other Utopia owners had a problem with what I said but for some reason you jump all over me for no justifiable reason at all.

My comment is about Whitigir's comment about the relative price of Stax vs Focal. Nothing to do with Focal and DIY. You're being over-sensitive.
