Jesus that’s horrific.
I clean and feed my pads to stop any damage to them, but I’ve never seen that before so obviously don’t suffer with it.
What do pads eat?

I hope Focal has already fired the person responsible for designing the earpads...
In the French tradition, they were escorted to the guillotine.

Or the guy that sold them the glue. “Designed by salesmen” we used to say in the trade.

The Utopias are the comfiest headphones I’ve ever had and they are on my head 8 hours every day if not longer 5 days a week.
But I think ensuring the pads are cleaned is key with this leather, they stay supple, don’t wrinkle heavily and will never crack over time…

I think sweat penetrate earpads and glue become lose to wreak havoc.
Same thing happened to my hd800S headband.
Yes, this. Especially with the perforated, more delicate ones that come with the Utopia. The Stellia pads I swapped with are a lot more robust so I’m hoping they hold up.

I really hope Focal has already solved this issue with the earpads. I don't want to constantly check the earpads and replace them every two years

Can anyone confirm Utopia 2022 uses the same earpads as OG? Thanks!

@ubs28 it’s probably you or your system. Here’s the math, you tell me what is more likely.

Let’s say Utopia has a high failure rate 1 out of 10 - yours failed 4 times. The probability is 0.10^4 = 0.0001 or 1 in 10,000. Not outside the realm of possibility of being unlikely but I’ll bet it’s not a faulty product.
This reply was intended for @meomap and not @ubs28, correct?
