Not sure why people are so focused on the looks. You can't see headphones when they are sitting on your head

Jonny Ive of Apple is a notorious example of prioritizing looks over function. Look at the price of AAPL stock after he left in 2019 and the company started to add common sense features and performance back to their products because they no longer had to spend so much time making stuff look good and thin.

I kind of like the understated look of the new model. The red accent in the center looks great. The OG has a more aggressive styling compared to the new one. Now we wait for the launch and reviews. If they can up the soundstage just a little more and get some subbass going this should be it. Hoping they don't change the basic signature of the OG.

the look of utopia is very classic imo, i think i have heard it being described as "old fashioned" but i love it and i see it staying relevant for a long time

Looks to me like the frame is forged carbon fibre not UD.

Excited about possibly a successor, hope they can improve it without taking anything away.

One thing to note, this is a replacement to the current Utopia, and not a higher level Grande Utopia that was rumored a week ago. So that could just be minor tweaks in the sound and as we see, an updated look. I would have thought the kept the same price but seeing $5000 mentioned.

It’s my understanding that Focal released this info to dealers, who then leaked that info to customers. I imagine Focal expected this, and it’s part of their marketing strategy.

MSRP IS $4,999.99. I think (but cannot confirm) they are pretty strict about dealers varying from that.

Sorry 5k…Focal may be strict but street price is far lower, there are many ways dealers play games to move inventory. I won’t share them here, but please don’t pay full price, one of the main reasons I prefer to buy equipment in-person.

Given it’s a (relatively) small price change I wouldn’t expect it to be more than a minor refresh either. There may be a small change in sound due to the redesigned grill/housing but I’d imagine this is more of an aesthetic change to bring the Utopia in line with the design language of the newer models. Hopefully they’ll also include a better designed cable too, and that might justify the price hike. Obviously this is just speculation (and a little bit of FOMO too as I only just bought a Utopia!) and I could be way off the mark.

The new utopia's look like a cross between the clear mg pros and the Utopia's. They put the Utopia drivers in a clear mg pro body? Damn... this or susvaras? I'm in a dilemma now...
