Focal Utopia General Discussion

Beryllium drivers and their sound are the selling points of the Utopia. Clear is a better value for the wallet conscious and some people probably will stop there. But that's not really proof of less Utopia sales. Those who want true TOTL will save or sell equipment(or just use some high limit credit card) to get the Utopia. I haven't heard either but it seems the Utopia is still top bird when listened to and compared to its siblings. People who really want it will get it.

I don't think the current sales mean the end but are probably to gain more interest in Focal high end. TOTL Utopia too expensive for many? How about a third or near half off? Elear too expensive? How about now that it can be found under $1K? Clear covers those who don't feel like buying all new cables and a case, and it probably has refined the driver over the Elear(judging by what those who've heard say). Great value, like I said. Boom, new Focal customers all around. Maybe some for life.

Really? And this data comes from where? From what Focal has been expressing to us, it’s 180 degrees out of phase with your post. I’m more inclined to believe them than an arbitrary supposition if that is what your post boils down to.

Enlighten me? I’m talking about a few different things in my post.

What data did I mention? Regarding the promotion their currently running here in Australia? Yes there is a price drop on top of a headphone trade in scheme that’s a fact unless the retailer is making things up. I can take this offer up anytime until the end of this month as well.

don't flatter yourself, you haven't ruffled any feathers or rattled any cages. do i really need to quote your previous post back to you? you speculated that if the clear possessed certain attributes then "R.I.P utopia". if that isn't suggesting its possible demise, then one of us doesn't understand the meaning of the term.

no, i don't work for focal so your assumption is correct. however, you are mistaken in assuming that i am defending the company, when what i am actually doing is correcting your misinformation regarding utopia pricing in your country. which retailer(s) are you quoting btw? i would be all over a new utopia at a discount price that is also subject to the trade-in promotion. that would be an unbelievable deal, and i'm sure that it is.

of course you'll pick up a used utopia for considerably less money. that's to be expected when you make a secondhand purchase.

you said in your previous post that "so many people are selling their utopia's already". it appears to me that you are trying to establish a correlation between the utopia's that you have noticed for sale and the introduction of the clear, which may not be there. the utopia has been around for a while now, as have i and it's commonplace to see head-fi'ers selling their totl cans for a variety of reasons. again, this is not unique to the utopia and nor is it necessarily indicative of a particular trend or issue.

you haven't been stating the obvious nor the facts, but you sure have been making some audacious claims and predictions, which appear to be based entirely on your desired outcome. if the clear appeals to you more than the utopia then good for you. however, it might be wise to compare both before making your purchase.

Lol ok then. Whats my desired outcome mate please do tell. I also think you don’t understand what I’m saying and I honestly can’t be bothered to explain it too you if your not getting it, I will just say that obviously the utopia will always be around just not as highly sort after if the clear ticks more boxes for the “majority” or potentional utopia customers as they will probably opt for the clear instead.

Jeez man don’t take things so literally obviously its not rest in peace for the utopias lol. As for the retailer price drop thing + the trade in yes its real, i have advertising material in my email to prove it. I dont need “data” i have a visual beochure of the offer lol.

Anyway I’ll just leave this here. Have a good day.

i'm not a mind reader but it seems more likely than not that your desired outcome is for the clear to match or best the utopia for a lot less money. as to why you feel compelled to try and convince the rest of us of that in the way you have is a question that only you can answer.

you chose the 'rip' reference in order to make your point and now you're back-pedalling. accusing others of taking what you post too literally and of misunderstanding what you mean is a poor excuse for confusing opinion, unsubstantiated claims and speculation with fact, and then posting it in a cocksure manner.

if you could at least provide some proof that a new utopia can be had in australia at a discounted price and with a further reduction due to the headphone trade-in promotion, then your claim would be credible and i for one would be most interested in it.

Not only the Beryllium diaphgrams, but the Focal patented “flower magnet construction” on the Utopia drivers as well, it is basically the largest, and strongest to have been fit “comfortably” on any headphones, Yet! Ofcourse the cheaper siblings will share some of Focal design such as speaker surrounds around the diaphgrams, thick and big magnets, Metal diaphgrams, tweaks in appearances.....but the most “vitals designs” are left out, and that is the Magnet construction on the Utopia, just as much as the materials of the diaphgrams itself

i think that's unlikely. those beryllium drivers are the reason why the utopia continues to be the technically superior transducer, and focal's flagship headphone.
Listen can I just say because I've part ex my headphones and Arcam avr550 for the avr 850 and oppo 205 and soon to have the lg oled 65 inch TV so I'm all 4k ready, the focal utopia headphones was so special to own, more because they were one of the best in the world, they were clear could hear everything but to me my feet weren't tapping, they had no soul ,I listened tonight on my Arcam avr 850 and oppo 205 that was delivered today and I'm blown away, the Mrs and I were bouncing around dancing all night,I don't get the same detail but it has soul and power and depth, having the best isn't always the best to my ears,I'll never slate the focal utopias they just weren't for me

It's not flower power on the utopia headphones, look at the mid-range on the utopia speakers, small round magnets that make a flower,Where's the flower on the focal utopia headphones??? Patented for the coil without a former

Focal based the Utopia headphone magnet structure on their speaker's flower arrangement. Talked about at 21:35 in Jude's introduction video:

You can clearly spot the “red-flower” magnet construction by looking at utopia open spot.

hey,
this always comes down to personal preference. it's no slight on the utopia or you that you happen to enjoy your av system more.

I enjoy any “beats by Dre”, one of my best friend is a gambler, he goes to the casino all the time. However, when he tried on my utopia and Wm1z, he said that his Galaxy S8 and stock earbuds sound similar, and in fact my system is not worth more than his S8, and that was his “statement”. Period

Similar experience with a coworker (whose wife works in pro recording studios). Comparing the Samson SR850 to my Audeze LCD-XC. According to him any audible difference is so minor it's negligible and any comfort improvements in Audeze wouldn't justify the 40x cost. I'm actually envious in a sense because think of how much money I would save if I could buy cheap earbuds/HPs for < $100 and be satisfied. I would advise everyone please do not ever listen to high end equipment like the Utopia unless you feel you can afford it. And this money pit is infinitely deeper than you realize as you approach the edge.

Enjoying headphones for less then $100?! Come on man do you think we are all heathens???

JK I totally get what you mean. Like I have said before on this thread, I listen to a bunch of headphones in the store and then I end up just reaching for the Utopias. I am thankful that I can enjoy headphones that are less money, but it doesn't mean I have the self control to not reach for them when their in arms reach ha.

I hope others are able to enjoy music on any price level. Save up for what you want, but in the mean time enjoy the journey!!
