Yesterday a leather shop friend looked at my Stellia and learned my fear of the stain and fear over finger & grease and guess what, I think after some untreated leather color match testing in the shop, I might just the perfect cream for Stellia ! - Leather Milk Formula No.1. what it does:
1. Darken it just to the right degree almost match the exact color of the metal frame.
2. Moisture without adding shine and can be replied however many times needed to keep it moistured.
3. Any finger print and grease technically is still lighted than this color so no more grease worries!
The cream itself is dense white liquid and can be applied with a cotton ball and it will self dry - it doesn't create any layering effect which means apply it will immediate darken the untreated leather to a consistent color regardless how many times you apply it. Images attached
I’d be careful (or at least very frugal) with the Chamberlain’s leather milk. It’s great stuff, but specifically likes tougher leather than what is used in the Stellia. Thin, soft leather is very easy to over-condition if done regularly. If you’re worried about oil stains from the fingers or hair, use just a little bit. Personally, I’d leave it alone... That cocnac leather is going to age and patina beautifully... Stains will blend and the result after a couple of years will be spectacular...
Congrats that you found the right product. I permanently screwed up my headband with using the wrong stuff, the leather looks dull and uneven now, absolutely unattractive. Should have listened to my gut feeling not to do anything.
So, guys ... stick to the recommendations. At least I have no more worries how something might look on the headband - hardly could be worse.
My three months old Stellias. I’m bald, so that all grease is directly from my skin.
I’m not going to take any actions with the headband. I believe that 2-3years from now the headband will be fine.
And so what, i’m not seeing it when i’m listening music.

Nice. After my “leather treatment”, my headband looked ugly. I then tried leather repair which people recommended and it now looks like this. Should never have touched it.

Thanks . Not a catastrophe, but it looked and felt better before applying anything. I think you are spot-on, it was way too much. Funnily enough, I read that everyhwhere before, not to overdo it....

I really wouldn’t obsess over it. I buy everything to use while taking “reasonable” care. My car is going to get dinged/scratched, my other possessions are going to acquire “patina” so I just try to put initial flaws or problems behind me as quickly as possible. Not always easy of course but you hopefully didn’t buy them just to look at them. i did buy the headphones (arriving Monday) so I’ll be curious to see how long it is before I obsess over them! But, seriously, just enjoy them; that’s my plan.

Yep, that is a pretty classic result when conditioning thin, fine leather.
Don't sweat it... It may not look amazing now, but even that will lighten and patina after several years, depending on exposure to light. Generally, lighter leather likes to darken, but what you will see is the conditioner gradually leaving, hence the lightening. Due to the innate unevenness of that process, you should have a pretty wild and beautiful patina when all is said and done.
