Focal Elegia - what do you think?

I've found I like the Elegia a lot so far with jazz and other instrumental music that does not have a lot of high frequency energy.

I've also enjoyed the Elegia for gaming because it has great sub bass extension for sound effects when called for but without the kind of ever-present boominess that makes gun shots sound like they are fired through a subwoofer that many bass-heavy headphones have.

I do have a creaky right earcup, however. As for pads, I'll probably be sticking with stock because I prefer suede/alcantra/velour and have a hard time wearing leather comfortably (personal preference because of skin feel).

Might 3D print some adapters and try some ZMF pads, though.

I think I found the best pads yet:

About $13 from Aliexpress. Partially fenestrated protein leather, 100mm, and angled. They fit perfectly with the Focal adapters.

US $10.53 30%OFF | Premium Protein Leather earpads 80MM 85MM 90MM 95MM 100MM 105MM 110MM For Razer For sony Headphones Earpad Cups Soft Memory Foam

The bass is toned down from the Dekoni Sheepskins, but the midrange and treble detail, plus soundstage are ratcheted up a few notches (due to the angled pads?). I am shocked that it could do this while retaining that rich midrange.

It sounds damn close to the Dekoni Stellia pads...

Did you sacrifice a pair of earpads to use the adapters with these aftermarket earpads? I'm a huge fan of angled pads.

No - I bought a pair of adapters off of ebay for about $13.

This edit is more like an update:
For the last several days I have been comparing the Elegia's with Dekoni Stellia pads against the Beyer T5's. At first neither one was winning because each headphone reminded me of what the other one had. I did more long term listening (several hours to a full day with each) and it became clear to me. The Elegia's, with the Dekoni pads, have more range, soundstage and complete sound. The T5's sound muffled/veiled/restricted in comparison. Of course that is just my opinion and I am sure that many people feel the opposite. :relaxed:
Nice to be able to do comparisons with my my own equipment, my own music and with no pressure at all. I wish I had a local shop where I could test stuff out at, but I am not sure how effective it would be. If you can't use your own music source, your own DAC, your own amp(s) and are limited to an hour or less of time, it only gives you a very small glimpse into what the gear might be like in your home. Taking a few months to go through all of my toys is ideal and definitely helping me thin the herd.
I will be putting my T5's on sale this weekend.

Great cables, especially for the money. Unsure if they ship to Europe. I think so ... message the owner, Jeremy. Great guy. He'll do you right.

I wrote
but I don't know if he will be willing to send all the way to the Czech Republic. In addition, if the package ends at customs, it can take up to 3 months to get the cable in my hand.
Some experience with an ebay manufacturer from Spain with a nickname
verdelaurel?
Or another EU source?
