Focal Elegia - what do you think?

What amps are you guys using and or recommending???
Asgard 3 4490 myself might move to pure class A or one of the super low distortion units Atom or THX possibly
Anyone using Xduoo xd05??

JDS Labs Atom measures as accurate as much more expensive DAC/amp setups. And it will easily drive the Elegia on low gain.

I had the Xduoo XD05. It's more transportable then portable, because it's a brick. So I would not buy it with the idea that you might use it for some portable use. I did that, and then ended up getting rid of it.

I love my Elegia, but I’ve got to strongly disagree with you regarding the stock cable. It is absolute crap. It looks good, and seems well made, but that’s an illusion that is literally only skin deep. I baby my headphones and their cables, yet the the left side of the stock Elegia cable started going intermittent less than 2 months into ownership, and failed completely a few days later. And I know I’m not the only one who’s had that experience. It’s also ridiculously stiff...and intrusively microphonic.
The stock Focal cables are, for lack of a better term, garbage. Thankfully, I have an aftermarket option that I'm currently using with my Sony MDR-Z1R. My own experience with the stock cable is one of interminable frustration. Like you've mentioned, it is stiff.

Highly recommend the Micro iDSD Black Label, amps the Elegia (and much, much more demanding headphones) beautifully. More energy throughout the whole freq. range and faster transients compared to my previous favorite combo of the THX 789 + Schiit Bitfrost.

The $429 deal is back at Adorama, in case anyone's been waiting for it. Check Slickdeals.
I got mine off of a 3rd party who purchased sets from Adorama. $540 shipped is a great deal, IMO; the Elegia is worth every penny. :)

And with a pad swap, they might just be good enough to go on your top bass list  ... the change in bass impact and level is huuuge.

And for a portable balanced setup, nothing beats the E1DA 9038s, weighs nothing, sounds great and is affordable, only does not work with MacBook Pro 2020 for the time being. Also powers my Sundara without breaking a sweat.

I agree. The Dekoni sheepskin pads give the Elegia a little more bass output than my Focal Elears have with their stock pads. So any criticisms that the Elegia have less bass impact than the Elear/Elex is easily overcome with the pad change.

Regular or fenestrated?

update: after a search, it looks like regular and not fenestrated.

It'll have to do a fair bit to get on that list, IMO. Still, the Elegia provides a lot of quality bass. It's a perfect complement to balance the bass-heavy cans in my collection.

In any case, what pads were you referring to? My curiosity is piqued. :)

Thanks. Although personally I haven't tried Elegia with micro iDSD BL, we got quite a lot of positive feedback about this combo.
