Focal Elear - Impressions Thread

I think the sizes are actually pretty comparable, which sound better? Have you had experience with both?
Cheers.

I've heard the T5p before, both versions.  I can't recall how the tonality compares to the Elear.  I'm 99% sure the Elear is bigger than the T5p.

If the t5p and the Elear is about the same sound quality "level" I'll be happy, as I just put a deposit on the Beyers. The portability of the t5p and the good price I got tipped the scale.
Edit- I haven't even heard the Elear, but Tyll from Innerfidelity called them a game changer.

I was considering the se846 or campfire Jupiter, but I think the bass a soundstage on iems lacks in comparison to full sized hps. I feel the bass is a bit of an illusion on iems.

Soundstage is a bit so-so, but the bass atleast on my Velvets is plentiful. Besides, with (C)IEMs you would get superior isolation and portability.

Either way, excited about Elears, and interested to see if the earpads between Elear and Utopia are interchangeable.

Being that I sell both I can say unequivocally that the T5p is much brighter with a significantly different bass tonality. For me, the bass is much more realistic on the Elear. I've had 3 customers in this week that listened to the 2 and each chose the Elear. Last week I had 1 customer go to the Ether Flow over the Elear - T1 &T5. It's all in what your ears like to hear I guess.

Now that would make a good write up Flow vs Elear

Now that would make a good write up Flow vs Elear

I keep seeing people say this and I wonder why.  The Flow is almost double the price of the Elear, they use different driver tech, they're tuned differently, etc.  Can you enlighten me on why people want to compare the Elapple to the Florange?

vs he1000
"HiFiMAN HE1000 - The HE1000 is rather an unusual sounding headphone; it develops a lovely, ephemeral sense of space and a softness to the music. The Elear by comparison delivers a meatier presentation with a more solid sense of body and weight to the sound. The Elears imaging is much more forward and of significantly small size as perceived. The HE1000 is more laid back in the upper half of the midrange giving it a more distant and less full-bodied sound. This is not a clear call as these two headphones sound quite different. Personally, I prefer the punchier more meaty sound of the Elear, but I can easily see it going the other way depending on your tastes...and, of course, your wallet as the HE1000 is three times the price.

guess he messed up then he should just edit his whole review and change it... and just for you.

If that was in response to me, it doesn't really help me understand.  I didn't mean to offend, it was a genuine question.  No need for the smarm.

Of course it was to you.

Your question does not read like you are trying to illicit information. It is easily interpreted as you asking a question almost to make a statement. Especially since you said apples to oranges.

When someone uses "Apples to Oranges" it always carries the impression that something doesn't need to be compared. Even if you put it in a question, you determining they are apples to oranges already says you have a predisposition. Instead of you saying..."wouldn't that be apples to oranges?" you essentially said "why would you compare apples to oranges?".

The big green smile is to show you I am being a smart allic but in good fun. Not in any intentional disrespect.

Here are some reasons:

1. Because someone could be trying to decide between the two
2. Some people are not familiar with how different technologies sound; like me when I first started in the hobby.
3. Some people want to know how far up the ladder the Elear can reach in performance
4. Some people dont care about price because they know the prices nowadays only mean half of a squat when it comes to actual performance
5. The Ether Flow is tuned differently than the Ether. The Elear is,  and will be, a benchmark for tuning and folks like me want to know if the Flow gets as close to their ideal target response as the Elear does.

Personally, I am fed up with having to make the audiophile sacrifice of naturalness for absolute fidelity and the Elear and Utopia prove it is possible to have your cake and eat it too.

Can the Flow deliver as well?? It seems like it may be able to.

No I am not trying to. I am explaining how and why I mis-interpreted him based on his wording and him quoting me.

Thats why sometimes forum dialogue is tough because there is no tone to help interpret what someone is saying.

I originally intended to attend the Hong Kong audio show to listen to the ether C flow and ether flow, (I much preferred the flows to the original that were there. Ether C Flow were the best closed cans at the show imho) But having said that, the Focal display was only two stalls away, let me preface this by saying that I didn't and still am not a fan of all those silver bits against the black. HOWEVER I get why Tyll was blown away by the Focal Elear... I need/wanted a totl closed back but Elear is making me consider selling both my LCDX and hd650 and be done with the upgrade merry go round. I am planning to place an order tmrw but can't decide btwn the Ether C or the Elear.

imho Mojo + Elear or AK70 + ALO Cv5 + Elear are game changers in terms of value/quality ratio

I just hope they'd do an all matte black version and a less grado like cable lol
