Which one is the better buy?

$187 shipped for FA-003
$242 shipped for FA-002w LBR (Cheapest wood earcup available)

I also read that the FA-003 did have a better sound over the FA-002, but then again, is the FA-002w the same as FA-002? So it would mean that the FA-003 has better sound than the FA-002w then?

Anyone?

I am suspect that FA-003 may sound better, because its cups are damped, while wooden cups are not.

But I would think that the wood would act the same since they would be denser. If not...nothing a little Dynamat couldn't take care of. If nothing else...the wood looks damn sexy. My order is confirmed so I am hoping I'll have them within the next couple weeks.

I doubt it...why do you think many of the higher end headphones are made from wood? I mean that is not to say that the Fischers are designed to take advantage of the wood but there is something to wood in a headphone.

I'm seeing if I can get the FA-003 shells included with my FA-002w's instead of the FA-002 shells. If I can get them to do that I will be able to do a direct comparison.

They are ordered...I am hoping within a next couple weeks. It seems to be the turn around time...14-21 days. I sent a message to see if they would send the FA003 cups instead of the FA002 cups along with the woodies...no response on that yet. I'll post up when the do respond.

Are you ordering from gd audiobase? It seems bugden doesnt carry these :frowning2: and I can't find any other reliable sources that ships to US that is reasonably priced

Yes...GD AudioBase. They responded to my request and said it should be possible but he (Dmitry) had to ask to make sure it was ok. He is going to let me know. I wouldn't think it would be an issue since the FA-003 and FA-002 are the same headphone, just different shells. They would basically be selling my a FA-003 with wood cups. The price should be the same whether they give me the FA-003 or FA-002. In fact...the FA-002 is actually $5 more than the FA-003.

Looks like it's a go...got another email from Dmitry and he says no problem sending the FA-002w with FA-003 shells instead of the FA-002 shells. So in a couple weeks (hopefully) I'll be able to do some direct comparison of the FA-002w and FA-003.
