I'm really hoping there isn't too much of an "improvement" of the 5/5.5G iMod over the 4G and that the differences would just be a matter of preference because I just bought a refurb'd 4G and plan on sending it to Vinnie ASAP...

I have a 4G I might send in for the iMod. A new 5.5 with iMod and cable is pretty, big bucks. I do want to base my system on an iPod so the iMod seem thes way to go.

this thread is useless without pictures (yes, an exaggeration...)

have you compared it with any desk CDPs?

IPOD looks no different but I will put up a few pics of the cables tomorrow.

I'm wondering, have you ever had a "good" source?

If you like it now, you may find it gets more liquid later. I estimate it'll become darker and the bass should come in. Blackgates need to burn in.

Best source to date was a Rega Planet 2000.

Still too early to compare.

I know I have to burn in the black gates. For now I just ran it 7 hours using Apple Lossless and its charging for the night and Ill run it all day while Im at work.

Ken will have an AC cable to charge and run for burn-in purposes soon.

That will be a big help for people to do burn-in because you can only use the battery now.

The caps being in the cable does limit you in this way but Vinnie and Ken are working on a solution.

What's different that the 5.5G requires a special dock cable - anyone know? The only thing I can think of is that it's using different pins? Or am I missing something?

Part of the iMod is now located in the cable instead of the iPod.
It is the caps if I remember correctly.
Vinnie found it much to difficult to place them inside the cramped 5G + 5.5G.
Together with ALO he found a solution that makes the iMod now possible.

Due to limited space in 5Gs, the iMod's two decoupling Blackgate caps had to be placed in the dock connector for 5g iMods.

The black caps now reside in the dock of the cable.
