FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out

I would suggest reloading the firmware. This is the version you should use, which has the updated 4G userdata partition:

https://www.head-fi.org/threads/fii...nd-wifi-opt-out.854353/page-384#post-14972752

Then perform any OTAs that are offered up to 1.1.0 version (or update manually from here: https://forum.fiio.com/note/showNoteContent.do?id=202105171716462723330&tid=19).
I could not get it to work. Was able to install the driver and updater but couldn't get it to recognize the X7 Mark II. I keep getting a Windows error saying that the device malfunctioned and Windows isn't able to recognize it.

You have to do a USB connect and press "previous track" at the same time (from off) to get into rockchip loader mode. See instructions below (bold note).

Firmware Upgrade

1. Open the extracted/unzipped "X7 Firmware Upgrade Tool" folder, right click "X7 Firmware Upgrade Tool" and select "Run as administrator" to open it.

5

6

2. Power off the X7, connect it to the computer via USB while holding the Volume Up button (the top button on the left side of the unit).

*Note: if your unit is X5 3rd gen/X7MKII, at this time, you should connect it to the computer via USB while holding the Previous track button.

In the upgrade tool menu, if it says "Device connected" and the "Upgrade Now" button is highlighted, it means the X7 is recognized and is ready to be upgraded.

8

If there's no change in the upgrade tool menu, please check if the X7 is connected correctly. Normally there will be no display on the X7's screen at this time.

If you're not sure if the X7 is connected correctly, please try to disconnect the X7 from the computer and then hold the Power button for 10 seconds to force shut it down. After that, first hold the Volume Up button, then connect the X7 to the computer via USB and release the button when you see there is change in the upgrade tool menu.

3. Click the "Upgrade Now" button to start upgrading the firmware. It may take a few minutes.

9

4. After the upgrade is completed (with the progress bar reaching full state), the player will restart automatically. The player will need some time to format the flash memory when starting for the first time after the upgrade, so please wait patiently. And it's normal if the player gives the notice "Failed to mount /metadata…." during this process, please don't worry.

10

Note: It's suggested to run the "X7 Firmware Upgrade Tool" as administrator, so to prevent upgrade failure.

I reset the device to factory settings and tried to side load the Play Store which requires 3 add'l apps (Google login, Play Services & Framework) but I keep getting an error over and over again saying "Unfortunately, Google Play Services has stopped". I tried to download the files that are congruent with the architecture and Android version but no luck.
Is there a way to download Google Play store from another App Store?
Dear friend,

You could install the FW1.1.0 firmware for the X7II again after doing the factory restore. The Google play store will return at that time.

Best regards

How do I update the firmware using those files? The link for directions to update no longer works and the method that rlw6534 kindly sent, does not work for me either.

Just for fun, I just did the firmware process again and it worked fine as did Google Play Store. The version that I suggested is version 1.06 with a 4GB user data partition. It is a full firmware rather than an OTA update. You have to run "X7II Firmware Upgrade Tool.exe" as an administrator (right click and select). Also you have to turn off the X7II and press and hold the "previous track" button while plugging in the X7II to USB to get into loader mode (the screen will be blank but windows should beep when it detects the device). After the full firmware loads and the device reboots, once you connect to wifi you will get prompts to update to later versions via OTA. You will have to do each update until you get to 1.1.0. Then I would recommend a factory reset and you should be good to go.

I'll gladly try to help if you can give me details on what problems you are having with the update process.

I appreciate your help but there seems to be an issue with the device where the PC running the Firmware upgrade tool will not read the X7. I've run that exactly like you said but keep getting a Windows error saying that the device malfunctioned and Windows isn't able to recognize it.

OK. You can still try to reinstall the latest OTA. Just copy the "X7II-ota-1.1.0.zip" to internal storage and open the Technical support app, choose "Firmware Update" and then "Local Upgrade". Just navigate to the update file and select it. That may fix your issue but it's not as thorough as a full reload from scratch.

Edit:

On the full reload, you did install the driver, correct? Using the file "DriverInstall.exe", also ran as a administrator? And maybe a reboot. It sounds like the driver isn't installed. Depending on your computer and settings, you may have to disable Driver Signature Enforcement to install.

Dear friend,

Do you mean this link failed to work now? You could try another browser to check again?

http://x7iipack.fiio.net/1.0.9/X7II-ota-1.1.0.zip

Manual update via update zip file
a. Copy the zip update package provided by FiiO into the root directory of a micro SD card in TF card slot 1 of the X5 (or root directory of the X5III/X7MKII's internal storage). In the case of putting into the micro SD card, it is recommended to format the card to FAT32 or NTFS.
Note: The micro SD card with exFAT format is NOT suitable for upgrading the X5III.
b. With the SD card in the X5III/X7MKII , turn on the X5III/X7MKII in Android mode and select "Technical support"->”Firmware Update” ->Local Upgrade - > external_sd1 (or internal_sd if you put the file in internal storage) and select the zip update package. The following dialog appears:
4

c. After clicking "OK", wait patiently and do not operate the X5III/X7MKII . The X5III/X7MKII will automatically restart and enter firmware update mode.
5

d. After the firmware upgrade is complete, the X5III/X7MKII will restart again in normal android mode for use.

Best regards
