Hi Sen2htj, thanks for the advice. I tried it and rolled back one version of Spotify but had the same distortion. So I uninstalled and rolled back one more...same again. So I uninstalled and picked a tried a version about 6 updates ago.....and it works perfectly!
It must be something in the later updates of Spotify that's causing the issue. I may go forward until i isolate exactly what update causes the issue when i have some more time. Hopefully newer versions coming don't have the same issue.

Dear user,

1. For the problem with Spotify, we learn from other user that the older version could work with the X7MKII fine. So it is the update of Spotify lead to the non-working of this app. You would need to contact the support of Spotify for checking the problem or use their older version instead.

2. After a long time of analysis, currently,we think that this problem is caused by Amazon Music itself, but we will still follow that problem.
1. In Amazon music v16.2.4 version， a sampling rate less than 88.2k cannot be played , while v16.1.10 version can.
2. When playing sampling rate 48K in amazon music v16.2.4, the parameters are not set correctly, which lead to the crash of libOpenSLES library
W libOpenSLES: Leaving BufferQueue::Enqueue (SL_RESULT_PARAMETER_INVALID)
AmznMusic_DMPPlayer: [audiodriverimp.cpp :289] Failed to enqueue next frame, enqueue result code = 2
The final result is that the application has no data for the underlying playback. So the underlying mixer programme enters standby mode.

3. When the third-party app starts playback first (the sampling rate is higher than or equal to 88.2k), the underlying will use the previous parameter to set track if you turn on the Amazon Music app after that. And the Amazon Music app could work fine now.

Therefore, this issue with sampling rate less than 88.2k is required to fix by Amazon Music. And we have reported to them as well.
Please also contact Amazon Music if you have the same problem in order to get their attention for fixing this problem in sooner time.

Update : latest Spotify ver.8.5.75.766 (date : 10 Sept 2020) seems to have fixed the audio distortion problem with FiiO X7 mark ii. Thanks to @mymatt_311 for the info.

Fiio has one, RM-1. There are numerous examples just like it at the book store. They all work with mine.

If you want a remote that fits the hand a little better. Search there for:
Satechi
They have a couple of multimedia remotes. One is button battery-powered, the other is rechargeable. I have both of those as well. Both work fine.

How to update the FiiO Music app:
1. Search and download FiiO Music in the App Store on your device!
2. Or Set the device to storage mode and connect to computer, drag the downloaded FiiO Music (.apk) to the device. Then disconnect the connection and enter ES file manager, find the FiiO Music app in internal_sd and click install.

If you have any problem in the latest version, you could uninstall the app and use the previous version. Or send email to support@fiio.com, we will reply when we are back to work in October 6th.
