Here is the Guide

I hope you have as much fun as I did! :)
I sure wish CWM/TWRP would be supported though. That's still out of the question, for now. Still can't believe no one else but me found this, for the FiiO X7 at least. My google-fu is strong I guess. Well, my duck-fu, whatever.  Really should have bothered sooner with this.

i did everything you wrote and it was successful with all steps

but still when I use neutron player and v4a the driver status says that it is not processing

Then you mention this at the end of the tutorial

"P.S; If this one doesn't work, the one bundled in with the FiiO App will, for a price.|

well the whole idea for me to do this was to get neutron and v4a working together but V4a wont work, that is a shame

So I am back to square one where I am using stock music app with vipereffect

do not waste your time if you want V4A to work with 3rd party players, simply it wont

@RebeccaSugar when you said that the default.prop needed to be edited, i did a bit of googling. i found a way to succesfully unpack the boot.img, and change the value within default.prop.

Right now i'm going to see if I can repack the boot.img into update.img, and flash it to my X7.

PLEASE Let me know how it goes! I wish you a crazy amount of luck! We're making progress, boys!

BTW, while I'm getting excited here with all of this, what are we trying to do exactly?

right now it won't boot into the OS and automatically goes into recovery.

tools used:
to extract boot.img from update.img (and to repack it later on) see http://www.head-fi.org/t/713735/fiio-x7-dxd-dsd-384k-64b-ess9018-android-wifi-bluetooth-4-amp-modules-balanced-out/16575#post_13258757

to unpack boot.img:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2319018

you need to place these in /usr/sbin

the command to make the new boot image is something like

mkbootimg --kernel boot/zImage --ramdisk boot/ramdisk.cpio.gz --base 0x60400000 --cmdline '' -o new_boot.img

i'll make it more comprehensive later on, but for now this could help you.

But why?

I also can do this on my phone, but I don't know why - what it does to help us

it means you own your device, instead of your device owning you.

Thank you, now, for the question we've all been waiting for! Does it work?
I'll give you a link to one I'd love you try, if you haven't already that is.

I know it says "RK3066", but it is compatible with the RK3188 as well. I just want to see if it doesn't give you errors anymore, due to said locked BL.

at this time I can't boot into android. I have a version of TWRP and CWM that 'works' on the X7 (previously no access to anything though)

I'm not sure how I can make it to boot up. I'll try to unpack/repack the unchanged boot.img, to see if that goes right.

Hold Power + Volume Up to go into recovery. Press Power for 30 secs to completely turn off and hold again to turn on. I'm so excited!
Try these settings if you haven't yet, maybe it's the configuration? MD5 size calculation mismatch? Who knows yet! I'll extract it myself as well and let you know how it goes!
ro.secure=0
ro.allow.mock.location=1
ro.debuggable=1
This might tell you more. I'm scattering and multi tasking right now. Crossing my fingers and smiling like an idiot.

and another. I was gonna keep them for me, but you seem to be doing the handywork as of now. I'll join you in a bit.

  Did you Remember to check "Use AwesomePlayer" in Debug?" I'll check this issue out too. I probably did something I can't remember.

i did now check it, but still the same V4a is not processing

I really wish you can start the whole thing from scratch and tell us how you managed to get V4A to show its processing

  I'll check on it tomorrow and let you know what I did exactly, might have had something to do with moving around a few files from root. I'll see.

please do, we are waiting for this final magical touch

thanks so much
