I'm planning to get some Mr. Speakers Alpha Dogs, and several people were saying that to drive them to their best possible sound would really take something with at least 1000mW output into 32ohms.  And yes, I will want to be able to take them places and use them on-the-go.  Not for walking around though, of course, I know they're too big and heavy for that.

Are those people "wrong," would I be fine driving planar headphones like the Alpha Dogs from something that does 800mW output into 32ohms?

Yes they are wrong. You will be able to drive the Alpha Dogs just fine from FiiO's 880mW@32 Ohm. For example with the LCD-2 (similar specs, less efficient) I never really have the dial over 1/2 volume on the e12 in low gain. I doubt you'd ever use all the power available on the Cayin C5 or the e12.

Okay awesome!  That's fantastic to know.  And you get all the great soundstage and proper frequency-response of the LCD-2 when using the E12 with it?

So now I just need to decide which I want. . .the E12 or the C5. . .

So @JamesFiiO , when the M3 should be released? This year?

BTW,
"4. Audio products are the product of art and technology; sound quality is especially subjective and personal.  Although the X7 comes with modular construction for sound tuning via exchanging amplifier modules, it’s still impossible for one audio device to satisfy everyone’s needs.  Therefore, we do not wish people to buy such an expensive product only to find it unsuitable for their tastes, and go from love to hate with FiiO."

If you want wider/deeper soundstage, C5.

Yes. It's not really a matter of power that makes the difference here as both amps will drive the purely resistive load of the Alpha Dog just fine. It's more a matter of amp implementation between the two and the e12 is more forward/analytical and the C5 is reported to have the wider/deeper soundstage.

I imagine with the high powered amp module the X7 will drive the Alpha Dog just fine as well, but who knows how it will sound except for James and company at this point.

... and I'm sure with a balanced amp module - X7 going to rock soundstage in 3D space

What, please try and find a smaller lighter dap that has the X7's features, oh wait you can't, plus 220g is not what I consider as heavy.

Sure we would all like oled, but it wouldn't be financially viable for fiio at this price point.

X7 has swapable amp cards, 100mW is for the iem amp card, it will have more powerful amp cards also available.

sometimes the issues is not just simple as you thought,  in fact, the best option is a 3.5 inch , 1280*720 Amoled sreen, but we can get the support from Samsung or LG. it is not about price, you need to consider the purchase quanitity is very very very small to them and none are

interested to make such screen to us.

What will be the output of the most powerful available amp-card?  And how can people obtain the different amp-cards. . .will they come with it as accessories, or will they have to be ordered separately?

the most powerful amp module will push out 500mw @ 32 ohms, and you need to order separately.

Dang, not bad, that's damn powerful for a DAP!  What amp module will it come with standard, already installed?

Nice. The E12 I used to own did something like 800mw @ 32 ohm and had plenty of power for all my cans so I think this will do well with everything I own except the HE1000, that will likely need a separate amp

Please understand the situation about the screen, it is not like a super market and all kind of sreen are listed in there waiting for you. and that is why Pioneer, AR choose 4.7 inch 1280*720 TFT.

of course I know what sreen is best but it is useless cause we can't purchase it from the few big company. so please don't hope X7 will comes with a high quality screen, it is mainly for music.

Oh dude yeah the HE1000 will most definitely need a separate amp, based on the stats I've read for its sensitivity.  I doubt there will ever be a DAP which can drive those headphones well all on its own.

Though Calyx M has 4.7" 1280*720 OLED with Gorilla Glass, but that is also a $300 more expensive dap than X7, and Calyx M has a piss weak cpu, so it's not exactly all that great overall lol.

We believe that 4.7" is too wide to a music player. it is not a PMP or a smartphone that people need to go throught a lots of content on the screen. of course, maybe you guys have bigger hands
