True, but I was asking why you seem confined to the FiiO brand that you've yet to find satisfactory and whose output you don't find significantly different than your phone.  Have you listened to Sony's top of the line DAP or any of the higher priced offerings from other manufacturers?
 
Have you investigated Shanling or considered their upcoming tour?

I have a QP1R coming in about a month. Its current-mode amp sounds like it might fit well with my SE846. But I truly, honestly, still want to try out the X7. Fiio, IMHO, offers better value for money than most other DAP manufacturers.

Affordability is one of their cornerstones, yet your assessment of their products so far has only yielded only "marginal" differences.  The QPR will provide an interesting variance.  I'm certainly a fan of the current-mode amp I own.
 
Did you ever try a FiiO amp like the Mont Blanc paired with the X5?

No, but I have an O2, which I like. I really want to keep things portable these days. Ideally, one single DAP. (I don't own any hard-to-drive headphones.)

M3 is a new DAP which is very portable . the target competor is sansa and ipod shuffle. of course, M3 has a 2.0 inch TFT screen which is better than Sansa and Shuffle.

Brilliant! I mentioned to Sunny in the past that after X3ii release, X1 became a bit obsolete (at $100 price point) and should be evolved into something more portable along the lines of Clip.
 
Not sure if this is the intent, but evolution of X1 -> M3 would be a good logical step

M3 is about $55. so it is not to replace X1 but belong to new line up. btw, I have updated some newest information in the first page.
