Fiio X5iii Custom Kernel and Scripts | 2016MHz CPU | 20% RAM increase | Undervolting | New DAC drivers | and much more

If this Fiio gets any faster then it will be playing songs before I know what I want to play. Wow

If you have the time or anyone else wants to chime in on explaining some of the terms used above as Internet search didn't always answer exactly what is going on. For example, I enabled "AROMA: Added option for enabling Interface Boost function" but don't know what it is.

Yep... fair enough. AROMA is the installer in TWRP that installs the kernel and sets up all the tweaks. The Interface Boost function is a on/off option that effectively enables/disables all delays on the Android interface. The player interface speeds up significantly as a result, without any of the transparency effects or transitions between menus, applications etc on Android.

The 1.7 GHz version is no longer available to me. I acknowledge that a default of 1.4 is enough for both system speed and Google boulder usage. As well as user experience on 4PDA.
I left the default setting for the first time on the second flash attempt.
Big thanks ..

In the end I always test the stability of the system by playing it via DLNA in FiiO Music. Absolutely smooth, even with album covers. WiFi speed 75 Mbps

Don't worry. This is something I forgot to add on the release build. There are certain 1704 players that need default frequencies to work properly, so 3.41 will be released shortly to cater for these users. Release in an hour...

Neutron and MTweaks whisper that a little CPU reserve would be very useful .

In testing 1416 is usually more than enough for neutron in DSD upsampling mode (w/ multithreaded processing on). Playing back a 6 channel 24-48 file & all cores humming along at 1416 (on 2016 3.4 version). Hasn't even touched 1704 or 1752 frequencies. In UAPP & FiiO Music playback they usually sit at lowest frequency (696) and occasionally go up to 1416.

I'd tend to agree with this. A properly tuned 4-core processor should handle most things that are thrown at it @ 1416MHz. 1704 and 2016 are frankly there for bragging rights not for anything else. With the custom kernel, having fast compression (LZ4) and additional memory (ZSWAP) coupled with fast governors (iX) and read-prioritised schedulers (anxiety/row/zen) sets this miles apart from the vanilla kernel. Hence why even on default clock speeds a custom kernel has significantly better performance than vanilla.

What we do need however, are additional optimised profiles for music playback. I haven't yet had time to experiment with optimised kernel settings using SmartPack kernel manager (the best kernel settings editor) but prispewnic has done a fine job of getting us this far. If anyone has any further config suggestions for specific usage profiles (@WitzyZed, @TiborG, @xnuthecaveman or any new rising star) please get back in touch and they'll be inserted into 3.4x or 3.5.

Solve the issue for me :) everything works fine on 1.7ghz. Thanks !!

I totally agree, 1.4 GHz is enough frequency for normal playback, including resampling to DSD64 in Neutron. 1.7 GHz is only visible when scanning audio libraries, especially FiiO Music.
Well, the ego effect is probably an important haha
Interestingly, the WiFi card performs like after upgrading

Hi all,
I need your help...
From what I remember I was running Jkbuha kernel 3.3 and it works just fine.
I try to install kernel 3.4 but unfotunatelly I've got a boot loop after apps optimisation.
What can you you advise to get back to a stable situation for my divice ?

Thanks

Fear not. Reboot into TWRP recovery (play+back+power) and either reinstall 3.4 with 1416 speed, or else 3.3.2 with 1416. You should be good to go.
