@solanahtari

(see here) Android auto requires at minimum, Android Oreo (8.0) or newer.

We're lucky the custom kernel works as well as it does, but it's not in active development anymore. Likewise, FiiO is no longer putting out firmware updates for it. The last update, 1.2.5, came out in July of 2019.

Not possible or remotely relevant to this thread, sorry.

Is there a way to completely reset to stock? I mean remove the bootloader and such. I'm trying to upgrade the custom firmware from several years ago, (3.01 I think) and I'm finding extreme difficulty in parsing the instructions as well as having difficulty with my the X5 even interfacing with my PC. If I could start from square one, I would at least have an easier starting point.

Whose custom firmware? Do you mean the custom kernel project? My signature has instructions, are those the ones that you found extreme difficulty with?

Latest official firmware version is 1.2.5, and latest custom kernel is version 3.4.

I'm having fun with this.
The PlayStore is back after I deleted it by accident a few years ago.

I have now PowerAmp installed and it seems to be working and USB Audio Player runs as well.

Only the Fiio app now crashes after it go updated, maybe that is because I removed the default sound effects?

I've never used anything but the Fiio app on my X5iii, and apart from a couple of glitches along the various versions, it has not stopped working. Not sure what "default sound effects" mean - been running a clean 3.4 kernel and Fiio App since I got the X5iii, so that's all my old grey blob remembers :)

I think that at one time, I had to delete the app data for a new Fiio App version to work, as it crashed with the old music database.

FiiO music app has a couple iterations. The one that came bundled with firmware version 1.2.1, is version...3.4.1. It had a purple app icon if I remember correctly. Sometime after that, FiiO launched another version (red app icon) which reset the version numbers, and that one is currently on version 3.2.1.

I do not experience crashes with either version, and opted for remove musicfx/effects in the installer options.

That was a good suggestion, but unfortunately didn’t work.

Strange for me it’s not working, but it’s not a problem since I can use the other apps.

I think the way to update the Fiio app with the custom kernel installed is to copy the .apk file to your SD card and manually install, rather than go through the PlayStore. I dimly remember seeing a post about it previously.
