Official firmware version 2.50 for the X5 is now available!

https://www.dropbox.com/s/piaa7l1x9flrpg1/X5%20FW2.50.zip?dl=0

The following changes and improvements were made to firmware version 2.5 compared to FW2.4:

1. Support for exFAT-formatted microSD cards;
2. Fixed issue where changing tracks through Favorites easily caused hangups;
3. Fixed issue where the sleep timer does not remember its last setting;
4. Fixed issue where certain tracks from certain CUE files could not be played or displayed;
5. Fixed issue where if different tracks are tagged with the same artist, with the same spelling but different capitalization, the tracks where the tagged artist name is non-capitalized could not be displayed;
6. Numerous other bug fixes.

The latest DAC driver (compatible with all DAC-capable X players) may be downloaded here:

Info on creating M3U playlists on the computer using them on the X5 may be found here:

Looks great; can't wait to load it and give it a spin when I get home from work!

Question: Is implementation of ReplayGain meta tag support still in the works for the future?

So far so good since installing it tonight. I was hoping for some GUI surprises in there. I was also wishing that fast scrolling through Artists or Albums would finally be implemented. Guess we might need to wait a bit longer. And I will open this can of worms...I think the sound is superior on this firmware relative to 2.4 :)

In the past, the sound has never changed with firmware updates. Is that a new feature now?
:wink:

This has been a topic of much debate in the past, hence my can of worms comment. Ask Fiio and they say it has never changed. Read the threads and there are a cast of thousands saying it has changed for the better or worse between different firmware. I fall into the latter category.

Yes, I belong to those who have heard the changes and for me, the FW2.4 was the best of all. So I'm very exited to test the new version in the evening at home.

Glad I'm not alone :) I personally didnt feel 2.4 was the most superior to be honest. I felt it lost some of the top end and instrument separation and gained a bit of bass bloating. I stuck with it because of the amazing modded firmware that kept getting released. 2.5 feels more forward, with fantastic separation and pretty spot on bass. Interested to hear your thoughts once you give it a whirl.

Hi Joe,

Are there any plans to re crop the albumart top to bottom instead of side to side?

Also is it just me or was the scrollwheel changed on the 2.5 firmware update?

Maybe the sound is a little more powerful, the darkness between the instruments is deeper, the separation is better, maybe it's a placebo. It doesn't matter, i like it and i will do my little custom changes tomorrow and stay at this firmware.

DAC mode freezes my linux audio subsystem! Any changes on that front? Is it working for you guys? Will test in the evening on my private pc.

Downgrade to 2.4 fixes the issue for me.

Thank you for your great job. I am really appreciate it(*゚▽゚)ノ

I just install it and listening to music with your new firmware 2.5.

Then, I have question about battery life.

Is there any changes?

Still 10 hours?

I know that it depends on type of music.

I am just wondering about that.

Thanks Joe

I loaded 2.5 on the X5.  Uninstalled both DAC drivers (X3ii and X5), rebooted, installed unified driver (using X3ii when asjked to pluga  device), rebooted.

X3ii is recognised - no issues

X5 is not.

At this stage, the driver doesn't seem to sport both devices - Win 7, 64bit.
