Geez, this is one of those themes where the pics don't do it justice. I just fired this baby up and absolutely love it. Very fitting for the 80's indeed, simple yet manages to have its fancy touches. Well done on a fantastic theme. I will use it as my daily driver and report back if I encounter anything unusual. ***EDIT*** Just gave it a good test run. I would say my ONLY piece of feedback is around the missing status of whether a track is currently playing or not. The only way to currently find out is to go to the Now Playing screen and look at the progress bar to see if it's moving. If you manage to throw a play/pause icon slam in the centre of the top bar, I would say this would improve usability.

Glad you like it - & really appreciate the feedback, it helps a lot. This has quite a busy top bar compared to my usual treatments (I prefer things stripped down), but I'll look at adding a play/pause indicator as you suggest.

Any oddities you find, be sure to let me know.

Thanks for taking my feedback in good stride :) Thing is I love how the top bar currently looks and agree its simplicity along with the rest of the theme is right on the mark. However as simple as this theme is, it also screams maturity. From the start up and shut down sequences, the navigation of the main menu and the way it is laid out right down to the detail like your Now Playing main menu item perfctly aligning with the Now Playing text once you select that option. Seriously some of the sharpest execution I have seen to date. I really do feel the addition of the Play/Pause would make it graphically and functionally spot on. Thanks again for your work on this one.

Sorry for the noob question.
What's the base of fiio x5 fw? Does it uses any android/linux kernel?
Or is it written entirely from scratch?

the firmware is build on the JZ4760 CPU. this uses the MIPS architecture.

according to http://www.ingenic.com/en/?product/id/3.html this seems to be able to run android/linux

we've so far haven't been successful in decrypting the unmasked sys.bin.

mostly due to lack of knowledge. (on my side, at least)

I mailed fiio support regarding this they said they've build everything from scratch . But for me sys.bin , root folder everything sounds more linux not sure though

What is interesting to note is that other players based on the JZ4760 share the same directories.

I'm sure they build the sys.bin from scratch, but according to some specifications.

May be ur right..since mips can be used for many embedded systems even in Zune fw build its used.
Iam just curious to know that x5 doesn't carry the general sound signature of Linux kernel... which I hate wr separation among freq is bad and doesn't sounds natural Imo and I love the way windows handles the audio with more accurate natural sound:heart_eyes:

As i had expected.

The sa2k errors i had received when flashing X5 II firmware to the X5, are not software related.

I consider them to be software related

Maybe we have a different definition for this, but I thought that this is what you meant by software related.

X5II also has a different crystal oscillator, which could need a different code, so even if you could flash x5II firmware, you could burn the clock.

The software is looking for the hardware. I don't know what the chip does. No documentation in english.

But it seems there's a piece of code that is used to control this chip.

I wondered which theme is the most easily read by older people with somewhat challenged eyesight, is there any consensus on this?

thanks
