I absolutely love my X5: it makes traveling a pleasure, and I think I'm a bit spoiled as a result. The Net Effect: I'm somewhat disappointed in the X1 2nd gen, both in terms of its interface (where's my scrolling wheel? I miss its tactile feel) and its flat sound. I guess its like drinking wine: Very easy to go up the food chain, but difficult to go back!!

I have auditioned the unit and it sounds a bit warmer and thicker than iBasso DX80. There soundstage is not as wide as DX-80 but its full bodied sound is good for vocal. The navigation is easy to use, it took me about 10 mins to get it going. So far there's little lag and navigation is quite smooth suggested the beta firmware is good enough. I've tried both 44.1k and high res playback up to 192k in PCM and DSD128 without any problem. The gain settings is 'Low' and is loud enough around 60/120 for PCM and 75/120 for DSD driving a pair of Beyerdynamic T50p headphones.

Switching from pure music mode to android mode enabled you to install third party software like Tidal and Spotify apps. With WiFi enabled I stream Tidal app in Hi-Fi subscription, it sounded very good and may suggested the SRC is defeated and stream at it native sampling frequency of 44.1k. Built wise is a little thicker but shorter than DX80 and it feel a little heavier.

It comes with a plastic transparent protective cover and a leather pouch, so either you can have a choice of them. I've made pre-order 'early bird' discounted price and unit should arrive in a month time.
