i'm not really sure what's going on - prices for all sandisk cards have dropped and you don't need a prime membership to get these prices

will the 400 gig stay at $140??

and have we confirmed that 2 400 gigs is actually viable?
like i know it will have the 2nd slot hiccups at times but it does that with ANY card as far as I understand

I'll let you know my findings. I jumped on the deal. After tax (free shipping), they came to around $151 each. can't beat that price

I got mine for 125€ each yesterday. Usually prices here in Germany are 1:1 to the US price in Dollar because of 19% tax that we have to pay on top.

I can still see the cards offered for 125€ in Germany but I do have Prime.

Does one of you have an opinion if exFAT or NTFS is the way to go? I guess NTFS is the better file system if the X5 III is compatible.

Shoot i'm nervous about pulling the trigger here.
From what I can gather from this thread the 400 gig cards can work although stuff like shuffle and search might perform poorly.
If you are using folder navigation they should work ok

Such limited discussion about it though ugh....

I only use folder navigation, so I should be okay. Also, if they don't work well in the FIIO, I'll use them on one of my Pioneer XDP's

I was using a 256 in slot 1 and a 200 in slot 2. When I purchased a 400 some time ago, my intent was to replace the 200. No go. End result: the 400 works in slot 1, but adding the 256 in slot 2 causes problems. The 200 in slot 2 with the 400 in slot 1 seems stable.

Say, I wonder if a modded kernel could address this problem...

Dear friend,

Thanks for the feedback. We will report to the engineer about that to see whether the improvement can be done.

Best regards

ok well i guess the answer for me is to wait then

i'm still getting started with this thing and just got a 256 gig about a week ago. haven't even opened it yet and would return it if two 400 gig cards work well

alas if i don't use these in my x5 then i'll have no other use for them so it makes sense to be sure here ;)

Not sure if it's appropriate to say this in this folder, but several months ago, I was in a "I wanna buy something" mood, so I picked up the Pioneer XDP-100r. I've found this device to be superior in nearly every way to the X5 iii. I still like the X5, but it takes a back seat to the XDP. the only drawback to the Pioneer is the size and physical dimensions. It's a bit unwieldy to try to use as a carry-around device. Now fortunately for me, I nearly never listen to music on the go (always at a desk-top, bedside, easy chair), but others may find this to a show stopper. So far, no issues with any size card I've thrown at it. remains to be seen how it will work with multiple 400gb cards.

If I'm outta line touting another brand here, let me know and I'll delete this post.

I think you probably just enjoy the neutral-bright signature more.

True that, but I also really like the UI and the overall functionality. The screen is a bit bigger which plays in my favor, and the touch screen is perfectly responsive.

We'll await feedback from FiiO to reply on whether a bugfix to the framework would resolve this. As to the modded kernel however there could potentially be a solution. Applying the latest kernel patches to optimise exFAT and NTFS performance have been successfully demonstrated on other (non-FiiO) devices, but unsure as to whether there will be backwards compatibility. At this stage I'd suggest we see if anything can be done on the base ROM.

Can't ask for anything fairer than that... of course, it's not as if other users upstream haven't reported the erratic behavior of the 2nd slot ad infinitum without any sort of useful official response... but we take what we can get ;)

Thanks!

S.
