Hello guys! A question for you. I know, probably other people ask you the same, but i should read 677 pages of thread and it scares me, so if you could help, even with few words... long story short, i actually have a Ibasso DX50, which serves me nicely, but i was curious about this Fiio x5 3rd gen. Is it a definite improvement over my ibasso, so i can justify 450 euros, or i can stick to my older DAP? Someone here had the DX50 and could make me some comparison, perhaps? Thank you a lot
I had the DX50 before I got my Fiio X5 gen 2 and I can tell you that the X5 gen 2 sounds better than the DX50. I haven't heard the new gen 3 but I've seen plenty of people say it's better than the gen 2 so you can bet it's better than the DX50.
Unless you have to have a portable dap I'd suggest you look at the Schiit Modi Multibit or the Bifrost Multibit. You can use your computer or your DX50's coaxial out. The sound quality of my Modi Multibit is as good as it gets for a dac that's under $300, and I'd say it's better than most daps, even some very expensive ones.
